Long loading screen (black screen) bug seems to be more frequent as of late

  • Not exactly sure if this is a me or us thing, but I lean to us, as my crew is also complaining from it.

The black screen bug is occuring much more frequently than it used to - the one that takes 3-4 minutes do spawn you back and makes your hands, as well as anything they hold invisible until you restart the game.

Seems like it happened after 2.2.0.2 was released. I never had this bug more than once-ish a week (I play every single day approx 3 hrs), but for the past one week, I've had it every day, sometimes multiple occurrences per session.

  • @greengrimz I've noticed this just recently, I was very impressed with my S for its swift loading times and reduced black screen of death in combat, but all of a sudden its dropped off a cliff and I'm back to getting sunk on a black screen like its a year ago

Something must be wrong, sometimes it loads normally. But sometimes this bug happens, and when you're in mid-fight it's not very laughable.

Is the bug the same on XboX? Where your hands just disappear until you restart the game?

  • @greengrimz no, I've had it when I join PC players where I can't interact with anything and don't have anything equipped, but on xbox it's just the black screen with the little wheel in the corner that stays for a long time after respawn, especially if anything else is happening at the time, so in combat for instance. It's very frustrating. The problem I have when joining PC players seems to either resolve itself or resolve by quitting and rejoining.

  • The problem is 30% hardware 70% Rare's god awful "optimization"
and they wont fix it any time soon

  • @greengrimz I've not had the invisible hands, but when other crews are nearby I have had the loading issues from the ferry.

As with @reedski I have experienced excellent loading times on the new Series S (we got them a week apart) and yet for some reason we still experience these slow loads in these very specific conditions.

I have had an issue where I can no longer interact when I have died - if you hold X on the pad it just cancels itself out. Makes for combat being less than fun when you have to die to sort yourself out!

I like to think they do what they can.

Yeah, definitely quite annoying game changer. You could literally be winning, but lose due to this long loading screen.

Hell, it almost happened to us the other day, we barely managed to bucket water to save our galleon that was drilled like swiss cheese. I think if we were literally half a second late we would have sank. And this was after we had an extreme upper hand on a fight. But when black screen hit us, the enemy ship had enough time to recuperate and retaliate.

  • black screen time is directly related to the amount of objects near by. This would be players, ships, and loot. Another reason to turn in often to limit the contribution of your loot to the black screen time.

Don't think that's very much true honestly. We are often hoarding treasures worth 200-300k gold before we sell, during which time I mostly load properly.

Maybe the amount of "surroundings" have an impact when the bug actually occures, and further worsen the loadup time. But surely load times are mostly fine, even if you or other ships carry a lot of items.

  • @greengrimz try having a haul over 1 million and see what your loading times are. It all adds up.

200-300k we carry on a regular. We've also carried 1 mil in loot on board as well. I really do think loot affects the length of the black screen only when the bug occures. Otherwise you can load up properly, even if there is a lot of loot around you.

  • @greengrimz they have def gotten worse, i was solo fighting a brig last night and spawned back to a black screen, heard my boat sink and then started to drown before reappearing at 75% hp.

    i consider my rig to be high end, Ryzen 3900x, 32gb ddr4 3600, 1tb gen 4 nvme, 3080 ti.

on max settings the game uses most of my vram and only like 50-60% gpu. seems like it could be optimization issues.

  • I have NEVER encountered this issue, but I:
    Play on Xbox Series X.
    Don't use crossplay often.
Don't often involve myself in combat.
    Turn in frequently.
Rarely carry more than 50,000 in gold value at any given time.

  • Bro I’m on a 2013 XBOX one Launch system. 2-3 minute mermaids. 2-3 minute Ferrys! My number one cause of
    Death/Fail is load times!

Sheet runs better streaming on my Wife's phone than my damn Xbox!

This is most definitely NOT a rig issue.
