A minor sword nerf.

  • The sword, by itself, if hit-reg and backtracking didn't exist, would be decently balanced. However, because we have backtracks, the sword can achieve massive range, and even hit through walls and behind the user. That, combined with it doing 25% damage per hit, makes the sword one of, if not the singular strongest weapon in the game.

    So, the suggested minor nerf. Change the cutlass' 25% damage/hit, back to 20% damage/hit. This would put the sword back into a semi-balanced state.

    I propose this, because as mentioned in the first paragraph, backtracking gives the sword insane range. And nerfing the range wouldn't do much. Because the base range isn't the issue.

  • Have you ever TDMed? Veteran PvPers don't use sword anymore because it's too weak in high stress combat. I refuse to double gun but it puts me at a disadvantage, I usually make up for this in stealth tactics but if I'm seen it's very difficult to close the distance on a good double gunner.

    What we need is not a damage nerf, but a buff on the stun, and a return of some of the terrain tricks you could do with it. Currently the sword has very few tricks left and all the advanced forms have been removed.

    However, what you suggest is nothing but a bandaid.
    We need a total rework from the ground up.
    The sword needs to require skill and mastery to be powerful.
    The fact that a few new players can pickup a controller and spam right trigger and kill a 3 year veteran is absolutely insane.
    The sword is a hot pile of garbage right now.

  • Yes, I TDM regularly. But you want sword to be buffed??? Have you ever been sword spammed? Have you ever been mindlessly killed by someone holding W and M1? The stun, range, and damage are all issues. But the minor nerf I suggested would make it drastically less overpowered. I believe that the sword should be reworked, into a more skill-based system. That rewarded using the techs, and punished for just holding W+M1. But you and I both know, that Rare won't rework the sword like that. That's why I suggested the damage nerf.

    And I honestly can't tell if you're joking by saying it's underpowered... @Zherron Vorse

  • @salerio I agree, the sword needs a complete rework. But I have no faith in Rare to actually do so. The nerf I suggested would already make sword less overpowered, and that's a step in the right direction.

    I believe sword should be made so that you have to use techs and other things, besides W+M1 to use it efficiently.
