[Spoilers] Possible new Ship type for future updates in the new Tall Tales

  • Warning: Spoilers for the 5th Tall Tale.

Did anyone notice, who already played the 5th of the new TTs, how Detailed the Black Pearl was, not just in visuals but also in working functionality of things like cannons, wheel, laders, bells, lanterns.

To me it looks like that Rare maybe already preparing to indroducing one of the most requested features, a Man o War for a future Update.
I could be 100 % wrong ofcourse, but think about it, why should the Devs make so many Ship features available when in reality your are only like 5 minutes on the ship to watch the end of a tall tale. To me that sounds like wasted effort unless it maybe a small teaser for whats to come.
And for comparison, the flying Dutchman only has interactable cannons in the 4th TT, while also missing a proper colission box in the 5th TT.

    Any thoughts ?

  • just my 2 thoughts on this, i have no more information than you (maybe less).

    1. i don't think they will add any larger ships to the game since it would likely mess with the balance of the game (5+ pirates vs 2 would be too much). and
    2. the devs doing there job and making the boat fully functional even if you get 10 minuets on it shouldn't be thought of as a clue, its just them taking pride in there job. I mean, you don't say "they must be knocking down that building back there because the painters painted the wall that no one will ever see unless they knock that other building down" rite? sometimes its just pro's doing what pro's do and performing there job to the best of there ability.
  • they probably gonna release a new set of tall tales at one point and we will use the black pearl, it's my guess ngl that got me hype !

  • @shifty189 The devs were asked on a stream 1-2 years back if they would ever make bigger ships, and they replied "The question isn't IF we make a bigger ship, but WHEN we make a bigger ship." This added on top of the fact that a biger ship is one of the most requested features, I have no doubt we will see a larger player ship, eventually.

  • A bigger ship that you couldn't bail through the grill and should sprint all the way up in order to do so wouldn't be too op imo. I think it's possible to make it work.

you might be rite, like i said i don't know anything. as a matter of fact your mentioning something the devs said LONG before i started playing.

With that being said, up until this point the main way they balance ships is to make them less maneuverable the bigger they are. Could you imagine a ship that is less maneuverable than the galleon is now?

  • @shifty189 That ship has cannonports. Cannon ports that must be closed, or they flood.

When that ship fills with water, it beeds to sacrifice half it's firepower or sacrifice it's ability to float

I'm sorry, what ship are you talking about? if your talking about a new ship I'll just point out that the galleon also has cannon ports below deck that are closed.

He is talking about the black pearl which has 3 open gunports on each side where the cannons are already usable.
In terms of balancing, yes the black pearl has way more cannons than a galleon, 9 each side. 6 are on the upper deck with one of them in a gunport. The big But is that the cannons inside the gunports already have a pretty narrow angle they can aim at, like 10-20% horizontal and vertical. The open 5 cannons on the upper deck also have a much worse horizontal angle then regular cannons on other ships.
I would say in terms of firepower its already balanced with more cannons vs efficiency of each cannon.

Edit: I want to add, incase it has any meaning for maybe how many players can crew up for this ship, that the Black pearl has a ancor with 8 handles on it.👀

  • The Black Pearl and the Dutchman use the same basic layout, but the stern of the Dutchman is expanded upon so it's overall larger and this is also why the door to the captain's quarters on the Pearl is open but the same spot on the Dutchman has it boarded over so that they could make Jone's personal room much larger.

The viewing angle from the gun ports on the Dutchman are more than acceptable but restricted in a way that makes sense (extremely poor declination, making it virtually impossible to strike a Sloop at close range).

The really interesting thing is the capstan. It has eight spokes on both the Dutchman and the Black Pearl.

  • Something even more interesting to me is how in the 3rd and last tall tale the Ghost Galleons actually have a different Galleon model than the one were used to! Just look at the back of the ship
