Pirate's Life brought a sense of wonder and mystery because the SOT world became small and familiar. But PL left a sour taste in my mouth because of the bugs. I have no desire to play them again.

  • The tall tales in SOT are a one shot deal. The first encounter with each of them is the most memorable. This isn't something that can be 'fixed later' by the developers if there's anything wrong. You really only have one shot at these kinds of things because of their nature.

And so because of this, the players are the ones left holding the bag with the Pirate Life update.

For as enjoyable as the pirate's life was supposed to be, the bugs were far worse. Bugs from a major update are one thing, but this really was something else.... something else, indeed.

    1 was alright enough.
    2 was horrible.
    3 was great.
4 was almost as bad as 2.
And 5 well... I'm just exhausted and glad that I'm finally done with them.

I now have as much interest in Pirate's Life as the developers do.

The decision to put 2 of 5 of these new PotC Tall Tales in Adventure was very unexpected after all the media hype about these Tall Tales happening within co-op instances.

Even assuming the bugs, such as they are, can be fixed, the issues with other players interrupting and, essentially, destroying the experience - even if they're friendly - through inadvertently soft-locking progress is disappointing. These stories are so cinematic, and so heavily scripted, that the presence of other players in TT 2, 4 and 5 immediately detracts from the experience.

I can only assume this was done for some reason related to cost, or otherwise... because I just can't believe that Rare felt this would be an acceptable solution.

As you say, they only have one chance to make a first impression, and due to interference - even if passive or friendly - from other players, these tales fail to live up to their promise, or the expectation created by the marketing hype in the lead-up.

  • I cant believe my friends and I were so excited we were going to do them all. After two tries of TT2 we gave up and started to play a new game on gamepass.

    Best thing we did.

  • It's pretty incredible how much effort went into a free update

Although quite linear I was amazed at how big and different everything felt.

Bugs happen it is what it is but overall I was impressed the entire time and thankful for the experience

Enjoyed a few moments from each tale quite a bit
