Whats the point of two modes ?

  • So what is the point of Adventure mode and Pirates Life mode. In both modes you have other ships, one leds to Jack but why not have PL TT in adventure simply?

  • BOTH modes actually allow you to do the Tall Tales. The only difference i can see is the Pirates Life mode places you in front of the castaways hut. IDK

  • The release notes suggest that's about it 'An option for Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life has also been added, allowing players to jump straight into the latest action with their friends, placing them in a Closed Crew directly at the Castaway’s Camp ready to begin a Tall Tale.'

  • I think it's designed in a way to prevent griefing/camping of portals. If you select the Pirate's Life mode, it's no different, but you spawn at the Castaway's Hut as @sudsierboar5526 indicated, but likely at an outpost further from other players that might try to interfere.

A lot of people are likely starting to play Sea of Thieves today just for this content. I think you would be surprised about the number of people who just don't use their eyes or don't have two seconds of patience to look for something at an outpost and will log out if they can't find where to start this.

  • That would make sense. It took me a while to work out how to start Tall Tales when they were first introduced.

Achievement percentage for dropping sails tells you all you need to know lol

  • @yawawat Yeah but that makes no sense whatsoever. In adventure and Pirate lifes you start at the outpost with Castaway tent feet from you.
The only difference so far I can see is that in Pirate life defaults to closed crew so servers are filled with single sloops which means its like Christmas, (6 ships has been sunk in matter of 45 minutes)

  • To allow players to enjoy the story without being interrupted by players that are simply out to ruin your day.

    Merry Christmas captain!

This is whats hilarious, I think a lot of people think Pirate Life is like PVE mode so they dont expect reaper brigantine drop on them like a Hawk. Ha ha suuuuckers. BTW I spawn camped portal too. Haven't tried to take reaper through it

  • @jadescissors32 To each their own.

    Not sure what you mean.

  • What is the point in the two modes?

I'm confused. If you can still do everything you would normally do in adventure mode, what's the point?

Its not doing the same thing you would normally do in adventure mode, it IS just adventure mode lol

It just literally still is adventure mode, just placed a little closer to the start location for the Tales, and it sets your crew to closed automatically.

Probably to make it more straightforward for new players I guess? So they dont end up in a random open crew and stuck confused?

Idk. Seems really weird. I think its real purpose is to serve as a more front end advertisement on startup.

This is basically all it is. Are you new and want to play the POTC content you heard about? Click here and you get plopped down right in front of the starting point and without the possibility of some random players appearing in your crew who are planning on doing something else.

  • @chip said in Whats the point of two modes ?:

This is not accurate. Making this selection just places you infront of the castaway tent. You are still on a server with other ships until you make it to the portal. I know this because I just signed into "a Pirates life" and was greeted by another Galleon pulling into the outpost. Just poor timing.

I think as many others have said, this option is to "guide" day 1 players that are only joining so they can play a POTC game and give them a quick chance to jump right into the story that brought them to the sea of thieves.

  • So I think question is are they the same servers or separate. I know there are other ships but also trying to figure out if its the set of special servers just to handle PoTc. If those servers are PoTC only than do you merge in and out of those servers only or is it swapping between adventure and PoTC sessions ?

  • @jadescissors32 If you're in the regular map, you're on the same servers as everyone else.

They are just normal Adventure Servers, there is no difference other than spawning in the Tavern or at the Castaway tent and being auto Closed crew.

For a moment thats what I was thinking but I see more people on the PoTC servers than regular adventure (emissary wide and tall tale wise).
So not sure if they are the same or is this just load balancing issue.
