Liar's Dice "Minigame"

  • An easy implementation of Liar's Dice would fit incredibly well into Sea of Thieves and be very friendly to the aesthetic style that Sea of Thieves goes for with all its content.

My suggestion for Liar's Dice in Sea of Thieves is for "game tables" to be available on ships, in taverns, and on the Ferry. On ships, you could toggle the quest table to be a game table, quests being unable to be voted on during the toggle, but not interfering with already active quests or tall tales.

Players could sit at the table as an interactable such as the ship wheel or cannons. There wouldn't be any kind of real scoring system, it would be up to the players to decide how to score it. The "traditional" style of Liar's Dice is for each player to have 5 dice and a cup to hide their dice. There would be keys for shaking your dice, slamming your cup on the table with your dice hidden underneath, peeking at your dice after they're on the table, and revealing your dice.

This way it is completely in the players control how to use this mechanic, people could stand around and watch, and if this game of some chance and some skill is used to settle a dispute between 2 crews, the weaponry of the other crew is there to set any dishonesty straight.

It would also be a different way to pass time that's simple, and wouldn't be the same twice for players that have played every shanty many times and parkoured around the ship until their fingers cramp.

  • Sounds fantastic! I like the idea of the players being responsible for any kind of scoring.

I'd tie it into the idea of alternative maps for the map table as I think it's easier for the crew to gather round in all ship sizes.

Head to the shipwright and buy the animal location map, the trade route map, or the liar's dice game mat and then swap out at your leisure!

Could then easily be expanded with new games etc in the future.

  • I think this would be a really fun addition, although I'm against putting any activities on the Ferry of the Damned. I wouldn't want to be mid-naval battle while one crewmate is playing liars dice on the ferry instead of respawning to help repair. Taverns and ships work for me though.

  • If they made it a separate instance with dedicated matchmaking like in RDR, then I could spend the whole night playing it again :D

  • That’s would be amazing seriously

  • That would be incredible; what an awesome way to pass the time in a tavern before or after a long adventure!

  • I'd support this, though not for the reasons you stated: it would be much easier to sneak up on another ship if its crew were distracted with a dice game.

It would sure make for an exciting moment for the "victims". One moment, they're trying to decide if the other players are lying, the next: "WE'RE UNDER ATTACK- BATTLESTATIONS!"
