We've all seen the dagger, you pull it out of the table every time you log into Adventure mode and you use it to vote on voyages and emissaries. I'd say it's about time we get the ability to actually use it in combat!
The Dagger of Thieves is primarily a melee weapon with significantly shorter reach than the cutlass. It deals slightly less damage than the cutlass (and always should), probably about 20 damage compared to the cutlass's current 25. You cannot hold to block with the dagger like you can with the sword- you must instead time the block button to parry an incoming attack. It has no lunge.
So far it just sounds like a worse sword- but here's what gives this weapon its niche: you can throw it once. The dagger does 60 damage when thrown and if you miss your shot it sticks into whatever it hits and can be retrieved. If it hits a player it's gone, though you can refill it at the ammo box of course. (For the sake of quality of life it should also probably be retrievable if it hits an enemy NPC like a skeleton or pig or something.)
This kind of weapon would give players an option between the current sword vs. doublegun "meta", acting as a sort of buffer spot for players who like the "shoot twice" style of combat but hate getting caught with no melee weapon. It has enough drawbacks to make it a complete sidegrade from all other options, and the single throw is strong enough to reward players who use it skillfully in combat.
If you wanna get real funny with it and add to the weapon's risk, make it so anyone can pick up a dagger thrown by an enemy even if they already have 2 weapons! Of course that could probably cause some problems, but it's just an idea.
