Make it so that if someone wants to join your alliance they have to request it. The current way that anyone can join your alliance and screw you over is game ruining. FIX IT!!! Also why does a crew on the same boat have friendly fire turned off but not alliance. It both makes alliance missions unbearable and would prevent further unwanted alliance joining. Think about it, it just makes sense. NO ONE wants to have some troll join their alliance and be able to just screw up their whole mission. The system as is provides too much opportunity for trolling and most people don't want to play Sea of Trolls.
Alliance acceptance
Alliance betrays are part of the game. If you’re going to be able to team up with every ship in the server, you’ll need some kind of risk. Just be cautious with other crews that you alliance with until you truly know you can trust them.
If you don’t want people to join your alliance, take your offer alliance flag down. You’ll still be in the alliance, but others won’t be able to join.
If there’s just one person on the other crew being a troll, tell the other crew to brig them. If it’s a whole crew being a troll, just leave. There’s nothing you need to be an alliance for.
@basssummer78374 can only suggest if you don't want random crews to join your alliance, don't put the alliance offer flag up.
The whole point is that anyone outside your crew is a potential threat. It's risk vs reward. You may make more gold from being in an alliance, however, you also leave yourself open to being betrayed.
I do think that alliances do need a bit of a retouch, and a prompt asking for acceptance to an alliance by a crew vote ( similar to a mission ) is not a bad idea. As it stands a single player can make the call for the whole ship and is one of the only things non-cosmetic in the game that is that way. This could be voted on in the captains cabin with a majority rules rule in place just like missions, tall tales, emissary, and pretty much everything else but PvP. Just because you have to be voted into the alliance doesn't mean you can't betray it, you just might have to put in a little more effort at the beginning to get your foot in the door.
@jyanin Well yes that's always an option. As for myself I was just saying that alliances, the way they are formed and joined, should line up more with the rest of the game. As far as what happens once you are in the alliance, good luck and here's hoping you made the right call.

I think those that use the alliance flag to sink other ships would love a mechanic where the whole crew is in one place.
@lem0n-curry Honestly I'm sure they would. However, that's part of the risk vs reward system and I would actually have no problem with the inevitable blunderbomb at the captains table during the vote as that's part of the game.
