IT FEELS LIKE THE GALLEON IS SLOWER THEN A SEA TURTLE NOW PLEASE DO A OVERHALL ON THE GALLEON IT IS SO MUCH WORST THEN ANY OTHER SHIP
WHY THE BLANK IS THE GALLEON SO BAD NOW
The galleon is for doing world events or supporting your 4 man crew sneaking up on your enemy with a rowboat/swimming.
World events you just turret in place 99% of the time and give the attacker a good 40 cannons.
Never try and chase another ship with a galleon if they spotted you at a distance. Never gonna happen unless it is the most green sloop crew.

I want galleons to do this. While they try in futility to rotate their ship into firing position with all 4 of their cannons firing upon my unmanned circling sloop, my crewmate and I are swimming underwater up behind them with 2 kegs that we will strategically release simultaneously both at the front and back of the bottom of their ship from below the waves. Then we'll stealth-board simultaneously from both ladders and kill/distract them long enough to sink them while they are forced to attempt to repair.

Isn't the Galleon still the fastest ship when sailing with the wind or has this been changed in a patch? I haven't been playing since 8 months hence I'm asking.
It's only the fastest when sailing directly with the wind. If the wind is going even a little bit to the left or right, then the brigantine is faster.
Here's a simple diagram to show you what I mean:

Please note - the above diagram is purely a comparison of the galleon and brigantine in regards to their top speed in relation to wind direction - it does not account for the sloop.

Aha, so nothing has changed then apparently. That diagram looks somewhat cute btw lol.
Well you have to understand a few things, Rare is INCREDIBLY good with balancing things like the ships. you are definitely going to give up a few things that a sloop might have just because of the number of players. they do this because you could literally send out more people on the sloop to board and still have 1 person steering, nobody wants to solo steer a gally though so they definently have to balance it out. Therefore solos = 4 man crews.

Lol this probably works with most galleons. Heck most of them wouldn’t even notice a ship heading their way. I’m too much of a stickler. Checking between waves to make sure there aren’t ships heading toward us or a rowboat/mermaid where it wouldn’t be. As soon as I see a ship in render distance, I position with guns facing them. Think I have pegged a lot of ships trying for keg plays because I hit them way before they think someone can (all that legend of the sea of thieves and LSD cannon practice) I make sure that others always go below as I watch ladders from the wheel deck if we get kegged especially as exterior detonations don’t do nearly as much damage to a galleon.
I think the majority of galleons I ever come across are open crew whereas if I am on a galleon, it is always with well-played friends from AOD. Always seems like a galleon full of triumphant/LSDs.
