How will rare fix 120 fov

  • I've seen a ton of people in the forum talking about 120 fov and I'm honestly just wondering how they would fix something like this. I'm no genius but I don't think rare can see if someone has modified game files. I know it's a serious problem and I'm just wondering if there even is a fix to it.

We literally were just talking about the forums are being CLUTTERED with these Posts, and here we are again.

You have to EDIT GAME FILES to get 120 which is illegal, and yes you can 100% tell if someone if playing on 120, it's very obvious.

  • @mrbadabing Not my question. I asked how will they fix the problem, not if it's bannable. I know it's bannable.

  • @rocktherock3398

How they fix the problem is Ban people who Edit Game Files. You only can do this on Steam not Microsoft.

  • @mrbadabing I know but how will rare even find out if someone's files are modified? It seems like an unfixable problem.

  • @rocktherock3398

Clearly you want to use 120 because you posted in other Threads, but still needed to clutter up the forums making your own post about it, but believe me people can find out....everything is a paper trail. Why risk something so stupid to have your account banned for?

  • @mrbadabing You really aren't answering my question. My question is "How will rare fix 120 fov" Is there or is there not a fix to people modifying game files?

  • ¨How they could fix it would be to make it possible to have +90 FoV was it 110 or 120 without editing game files but right from the game settings.

But if that is something they don't want or can't do they should just publicly tell that it's illegal so there wouldn't be any obscurity about the subject like there is now. Heck they could do this no matter what.

  • They can probably fix it the same way you aren't able to modify the config file on the windows 10 version, but you are on the steam version. Or they may actually not be able to fix it, I mean they've known about it for months but haven't patched it out. So... I personally think they either CANT fix it, or they don't care enough because a small portion of the community is using it and the advantage is negligible if not non-existent.

People dont use it for an advantage, they use it because it looks better.

  • @rocktherock3398

I don't work for Rare so I can't answer your question but tell you and advise you not to do it yourself at this point in time to risk your account of being banned.

If you are not doing it, then don't worry about it.
If you are not affected in game by it, then don't worry about it.

I play on 90 FOV and have no issues, nor has it ever popped into my head in over 3 years that I need a higher FOV for any given reason at all. Even if they put into place the option to go to 120 with the Slider, I would still stay on 90. At this time, if anyone has to edit game files for whatever reason it is, should be in trouble, so if peoples accounts being banned if their option , then fine by me..

  • What is the point of this post when there are 30 just like it? 😂🤦‍♂️

Well, maybe that means Rare should start taking these concerns seriously and listen to players.

    Give us PvE servers!!1!

Am I in the right place?

  • @theblackbellamy 😂

  • I'm sure this 120 FOV cheating would've annoyed me long ago.. But i since got to opt out of crossplay on my xbox and i don't have to care about these things anymore.

lol no cheating on Xbox, hilarious! Tell me another one!

Here's a hint, it can also spoof controller signal while user is using kb/m

  • @mrbadabing Im not doing it just wondering if they will fix the problem

  • @kommodoreyenser

    What's this!!

Every PC user on this forum spent 2+ years convincing Xbox players that KB&M has ZERO advantage over a controller during the early days of crossplay discussions.

Were they just lying to us all??

  • @needsmokes that is a very different topic and isn’t a good comparison 😂. However on that topic you can get as good as keyboard and mouse with controller as long as you practice. Either way a slightly larger FoV won’t affect a player’s skill level and only a little more of what they can see in the corners of their eyes. I just don’t think it is a big deal and this overreacting from everyone seems a bit much. 🤷‍♂️

  • @l-snapper-l

It was just a response to quote and link sent to me.

And i know how good a controller player can be.. I am that player!

No one can fall off a ship as consistantly as i.

The bottom line remains.. It's against Xbox terms, it's been posted on here by Forum moderators it's against the rules. And yet it's growing in use by the sounds of things.

You can't ever find a quote from me on it, as I have never said as much. The skill gain is much easier with a mouse than thumb sticks. I think anyone who thinks different never played FPS with a mouse.

Still doesn't nullify my statement though.

  • I'm baffled that this is still a thing. It should take a Rare dev 5 minutes to fix the issue. When parsing the config files on startup, check the FOV value. If it's greater than 90, set it to 90, and maybe send a report to Rare so they know who is tinkering with config files in ways that they shouldn't. Done. Fixed.

I figured that SoT is probably a horrific pile of spaghetti code at this point, but it must be worse than I thought if they can't even do something this mind-bogglingly simple in any reasonable amount of time.

Word is that this is fixed or being fixed so the file cannot be manually written to. My bet is the game flashes the in-game settings to it during start so it is overwritten each time during game boot.

  • Rather than be more limiting they should just expand the FoV on all platforms and let the player decide what they want to use. Does playing at 120 give you an unfair advantage? I mean maybe, but I dont think people tend to rely on being just outside people's field of view. They hide or get behind them. At the end of the day SoT is not an Esport kind of game, supporting access to higher FoV would just make the game more comfortable for people playing on a monitor (console or pc) that is closer to their face. I know people who cant play because the low FoV makes them nauseated and I have days where I have to log off because the low FoV is giving me motion sickness.

TL:DR SoT isnt a hyper-competitive esports game. They should just add support for higher FoV so people can play with whatever set up they are comfortable with.

  • It's not a "serious problem" and it's an absolute joke that Rare insists on forcing people to use 90 FoV, just because some people choose to play on garbage hardware at 30 FPS and can't handle higher FoV.

Pretty sick of console players holding this game back.

Nobody serious ever said that. Every gamer knows KBM is the best setup for FPS games (which SoT is whether you think so or not; sure it's an adventure game but it's a FPS mechanically). Controller players need joystick extensions and resistance rings to even come close to the accuracy of KBM.

Every gamer also knows that having more frames per second is also extremely beneficial. Linus Tech Tips did a video on the subject with Shroud and several other FPS pro players, the difference between 60fps/60hz and 144fps/144hz is night and day.

The Xbox One still plays the game at 30fps, and you likely have it plugged into a TV with around 10-20ms of signal delay (serious FPS players on PC usually have 1ms monitors). Pair that with the inferior input method of using a controller, and of course you're going to get beat. There's a reason console players on CoD need massive aim assist.

However, with all of that said: You still choose to play on a console rather than a PC, and Rare has already given people the option to opt-out. Higher FoV should be the same thing; allow it for PC players, and the Console players can continue to opt-out if they don't want to play with another minor disadvantage. 120 FoV is a VERY MINOR advantage when compared to higher framerates and better input methods, which are both MAJOR advantages.

yeah for real, like ??? It's not a complicated fix or at the very least it SHOULDN'T be.

  • Arrr !

I haven't seen this video in this thread yet, be enlightened.

  • @mrbadabing him asking a question doesn't mean he uses 120 FOV and he SHOULD NOT be banned for you saying something like this hes asking how they can notice if someone uses 120 FOV, I don't see a way that they could figure it out unless someone is open about it or if they post a video about it. I will be 100% honest with you, YES I have used 120 FOV. I don't use it anymore for a few reasons, I'm better on 90 FOV, I don't like 120 FOV because everything is to small and lastly I noticed you could get banned for it (I used it before people really talked about it because a friend told me about it) I didn't know the seriousness about it. Also the biggest thing that bugs me about people complaining about 120 FOV is that they claim that you can see both ladders while on Helm which is 100% false and I still stand by the claim that 120 FOV is a disadvantage over an advantage so I don't mind if they add a slider about it in game but they devs have said its not allowed to do this so that's why I stopped. Does that mean I deserve a ban for that I used 120 FOV? No. I'm just justifying about it and you can give me criticism for using it in the past but I really don't care my views wont change about it.

  • @mrbadabing If you aren't using 120 FOV then why do you care about if people use it? you aren't affected in game by it right? so what if people use 120 FOV they just have to know the cost that they could lose there account. This is what I call disconfirmation bias.

  • Ahoy!

As a reminder, editing the files of SoT breaks the Microsoft Terms of Service.

'You agree that you will not attempt to modify any Digital Goods obtained through any of the Services for any reason whatsoever, including for the purpose of disguising or changing ownership or source of the Digital Goods. Microsoft or the owners of the Digital Goods may, from time to time, remove Digital Goods from the Services without notice.'

Further information on this can be found here.

We do not allow discussion of anything that breaks Microsoft's or our ToS and, as such, I will be locking this thread.
