In the Sea of Thieves we all seek to make a name for ourselves, to be pirate legends, to be the richest of the rich, but aside from our fancy clothes and strange pets, not a lot distinguishes us from one another. Two pirates can walk past one another and they'd appear the same as every other pirate they've walk past. Well, perhaps we can fix that, add something interesting to really show people creating their own Pirate Legacy.
And, with that cheesy intro paragraph out of the way, I propose The Legacy System!
Yes yes, we have the reputation system, we have the emissary system, we have the Pirate Legend status we all seek to obtain, but in the grand scheme of the Sea of Thieves, each and every one of us is a nobody pirate with fancy clothes and an odd case of waking up in different taverns somehow. What I mean when I say a Legacy System is a sort of Personal Legend among the other players and pirate of the Sea of Thieves. A reputation not with the Trade Companies, but with our crews and other pirates. Glitterbeard left behind a lot of friends and a lot of stories all that can vouch for his kindness; and Stitcher Jim well, many people can attest to Stitcher Jim and his not so pleasant antics. What if we did the same amongst ourselves? Take the kind Pirate always making alliances, fair trades and eager to help. One could award them a tag, a vouch that this person is a friendly soul, a fair trader, and then others could see and do the same, eventually that one pirate becomes a Friendly Legend that 70 people all can agree on. Or, maybe you meet a tricky and clever sort, tucking away and swiping treasure under people's noses, with pirates shouting their name in anger as the coin has already settled into their pouch instead of yours. Instead of futilely shaking your fist in the air and having an angry drink, tag them and add to their legend and rep of a cunning trickster or thief. Let their skills as a Tricky Pirate be known both as a Warning and a Testament to their skill and the amount of people they've robbed. Preset Tags can be implemented to keep it nice and simple as well as safe, rather than having paragraph long Yelp reviews of a pirate and their legend. Craft your legend amongst other pirates as they speak your name in a reverend tone in the Tavern, feared or respected, a warning to stay a way or proof of their worth, a Legend that stands to tell itself.
