How do you avoid getting heated when you loose your loot?

  • Firstly, I’m not the kind of person to rage in chat or whine about the game as soon as I loose my loot. However, I must admit that spending 1+ hours congregating my loot and then getting sunk by a reaper’s brig/galleon tends to sour my play session. I know that losing treasure isn’t that big of a deal since I can just make it up later, but I can’t get the thought of all the time that was wasted gathering that loot out of my head. This line of thought sticks with me for the rest of my session until I just loose all motivation to keep going. Is there a good method for keeping a cool mindset when this happens, so I don’t feel like I have to switch sessions/games?

Side note; I’m not trying to complain about pvp or advocate for pve. I completely agree that pvp is an integral piece of Sea of Thieves and removing it would only make the game a grind-fest and incredibly boring.

  • I play solo most of the time, and my PVP skills are not that good.
I know that the chances are good that if I don't get sunk and killed by another player, a skeleton ship or the kraken will show up at the right time, and I may not survive that.
I usually only play when I am in the mindset that I may lose everything that I work for. I sell my loot as soon as a get it.
When I make it to an outpost, sell my loot for the first time, and watch my level go up, I am satisfied for the day. Everything else that I do for the day is extra credit for me.
If anything happens to me after that, It's all ok with me.

  • @tylers-mod Let me just say, you are awesome! Being able to step back and take a look at your own 'wheel of emotions' and how you've gotten to this point is awesome. I dont know if I have 'the answer' for you, but I feel like you are already doing a fantastic job looking at this in such a constructive way. Here are my thoughts, as a mostly solo slooper for most of my time on the Seas, and often wondering how much gold and loot I have lost along the way, I myself get upset in the moments as well, the feeling of defeat. Like you mentioned, the lost time aspect is something that really boils the blood, at this point in arena as well, any match not in 1st is a waste of time, which already is a huge time sink. The competitive side in me gets very angry, and sometimes I do have to just go to a new server, or I do loose motivation and have to walk away for the day. For me to keep a cool mindset for these situations, first lies in the revenge, How do I get back at them? Can I? Were they better than me, or did they get the better of me? Sometimes going through these plots of revenge help me feel satisfied whatever the outcome is, but sometimes its more time lost and no gold earned, but this is where remembering the story, the journey, the memory, all carry forward with you, learn from mistakes, try to enjoy the little things along the way. That's my take and what helps me, that's going to be different for everyone though, here's to hoping you find your peace with the Seas!

  • I'm also a lone wolf with middling pvp skills.
My playsessions are short and my goals quite modest, usually sack a shipwreck and turn in any trash loot, or hunt a skellie ship. Maybe continue from there with a voyage.

I find that negative outcomes during my adventures usually originate from two failures on my part.
Failure to keep a weather eye on the horizon, and a failure to sell loot often.

Experience tells me to keep my anchor up and cannons loaded, ready for anything, but failing at those two basic rules can still sour your session.
SoT is a brutal game if you cant learn from your mistakes or laugh at yourself, so bring a thick skin.

Thankfully for me, really negative encounters are rare and when they do occur, fairly easy to shrug off.

    That's my secret Captain

I take the pain then I rage in the form of results.

I solo'd hunter's call to the very end because someone sank me while I had a sand battlegill that I needed on my boat.

You can sink me but you can't out-work me, you can't stop me.

Anger is an efficient fuel when you allow it to power a positive mindset

People often act like anger is a bad thing or like people shouldn't get angry. Hell yes you should get angry from time to time that just shows you're invested and passionate. Just use it to drive yourself into results and don't allow it to turn into negative reactions. You cannot be stopped as long as you refuse to give up. If you bet on yourself you will always win in one form or another.

  • Go attempt to get loot back. If they are a reaper at least you know where they will be taking it.

Loots just loot you will have to much gold eventually anyway

  • Easy I don’t count the loot as mine until Iv turned it in

  • If you're prone to getting a little steamed when sunk, one thing that might help is focusing on Seasons in those situations. You are constantly gaining renown by actions such as collecting chests, setting foot on an island, etc. That progress is yours whether or not you reach your destination, and it helps take away the sense it was all for nothing, or wasted time :)

  • I rarely gather loot anymore but when I do I prepare myself the entire time to lose it. And PVPers may get sour but just take off as soon as you see other ships

  • @tylers-mod
I remind myself that there is literally an infinite amount of loot out there. No matter how much I lose, I can still get more.

I also welcome a good fight and most of the time I would trade my ship full of loot for some sweaty naval action.

  • This game can be very frustrating at times. I suggest you embrace Stoicism as a gaming philosophy.

You can't control the world, just your reaction to it. Rise above my pirate friend. Happy Sailing

  • I will be 100% honest with you. I have a ton of time spent in this game and I used to be very upset to lose loot, I've came to the realization that you win some and you lose some, PvE is just not it for me on this game so I PvP for loot. meaning when I successfully get loot from someone they basically work for me and the same is said if your loot is stolen. just put more time into it and eventually u will end up not caring as much.

    JUST PLAY FOR FUN :)

  • @tylers-mod I would not say that pve would make the game nothing but a grind fest and make it boring. I am fine losing loot. i am fine doing a quest and getting suck for our loot.

But take today for example. And it happens to us a lot. I load in and have not even went to the ship. Am inviting people. Got to the ship and it is sunk and I get shot and killed instantly. Fine, I jump on the ship at respawn. Take it to the outpost and start actually playing. Sort of a time waste and boring to do that but oh well.

Then we are on the first island and looking. We are up high, never see any ships and ours catches on fire. Clear skies and out fair enough no skeletons. Not sure what happened.

I respawn way across the map from my team. So the long sale back and then going to reset the gold hoardersflag.

The problem is getting killed right at spawn. Yesterday we had someone take our ship right at spawn and set it on fire. I spawned on it from the thing in the water. Put it out and took the time to sale back to were my son was at. I did not have him spawn on me because several times this has happened and the players were on the ship hiding and repeatedly taking us out. Because you are actually loaded in and killable before the game leaves the black load screen.

The game would be fair better for my wife and young son to play if we could actually play. Wasting an hour of our play time beforewe can even start playing is the definition of boring.

Edit: I think the one feature that is good and bad is that a player can jump off their ship while their team sales by. Yoiu never see them and they get on your ship while you are on an island looking around. Fine, but they can do this and be saved by the teleporting mechanism to safety. The number of times I have seen this in the past several sessions is way too high. Gives the kids and immature adults an easy out. No pirating. Just griefing people.

  • What I tend to do after getting sunk after grinding after a while and loose everything is just server hop or just go to arena. Arena is quite fun once u get used to it honestly.

  • roll some green tea;).no honestly when i so annoyed from the game i just close it

I also solo Sloop and this is exactly how I approach the game. As long as I get a little progression every day, however small, towards PL I'm happy with that session.

@Mr Ugly Joe if you ever want a crew member on your Sloop give me a shout buddy, it would be a pleasure to sail with ya... I'm on PC btw and my in game name is same as here on the forums.
