Keep that Final Checkpoint

  • So, here is a little story of how something I saw something on YouTube I tried in game and to my surprise it WORKED.

I convinced my buddy to download SoT because this game is definitely better with friends and for weeks we have been grinding this game. I also needed to play with someone who knows how to "speed run" because as most of you know majority of this game is sailing across map. Anyway after getting him ranked up to PL, I finally had someone I felt comfortable with raising the Athena Emissary.

Day after day we would do our voyages and avoid conflict at all cost because we were greedy and wanted the money and exp. Well after work one day he didn't have time to hop on and so I thought to myself why not solo Athena. So I started all my voyages in the Devils Roar stacking Chest of Legends after Legends and before I knew it, I was at Level 5 Athena status and at the same time I noticed across the map near Discovery Ridge a Reaper Level 5 had emerged and this is where things start to get sweaty.

Of course I just received my location for the buried chest and of course me being ported at Ashen Reaches I had to sail all the way to Ruby Falls upwind. Well that Reaper 5 set his bearing towards me. Out of all the times I decided to solo this one was nerve wrecking. Too much was at risk here, a sloop filled with Athena Items just begging to be plundered and he could smell it from across the sea.

The whole time I sailing to my destination, I would check the horizon to see that my Bow was cleared and run to the map to see if maybe I was just being paranoid. NO this man was FULL STEAM AHEAD turning his ship to intercept mine. Well I'm not a novice player and luckily I completed my Shores of Gold Tall Tale and had the final checkpoint saved for such an occasion. So I finally arrived at Ruby's Falls and began digging as fast as I could and my worst nightmare happened. His Sloop appeared from Flintlock and was way too close for comfort. I dropped the Life changing ashen chest of legends, quickly dropped my sails and headed towards the Shores of Gold.

I thought maybe if they were smart, they would've checked the island but no they were out for blood. Raising the alliance flag and telling me to "Stop ship" and that they're "Friendly". no no no good sir I know how this works.
So I turn my sails to the front as they angled theirs. Still sailing up wind I gained distance because they didn't know without cross wind or wind at your back you sail slower with them angled. So after they realized that, they copied my configuration and started to shoot themselves over. One successfully caught my Mast Ladder and it surprised the plunder out of me lol. A quick Blunder Bomb made him fly off my ship and he swore that all of my loot was going to be theirs.

Shortly after we reached the Shroud and they tried to warn me that I was going to sink but I knew I was safe there. Once I made it to the Shores of Gold, I looked back and saw that they tried to follow me in. After realizing that buckets weren't enough to keep them afloat they turned back into the map and waited. 10mins passed by and they're still camping outside so I make my move West hoping to evade them and drop a chest or two at Dagger outpost but they too set their course West and followed. Well enough was enough I had to sell and the only way out was a fight....

I made a sharp turn South while still in the Shroud and they positioned their Sloop to fire at me head on. once they made their first shot I turned hard East. I was able to shoot my chain shot and break their mast and get two shots off but these Pirates were good, they quickly repaired and chased me riding that thin line on the South side of the Shroud. Realizing I was out matched I had to turn back North to the Shores of Gold hoping their greed would also be their doom. As I was repairing my ship I saw and HEARD that they followed me in and was trying to Harpoon me!

But that was all I needed. They took the bait and they were too far in the shroud now to turn back! As I sailed to the promise land of riches their ship sank and their flag was mine for the taking. After chugging a bottle of water to calm my nerves, I played the shanty Becalmed and sailed towards Galleons Grave to turn in my loot. The Reapers flag was placed on top the Athena Emissary Table to let other Pirates know that this is that fate for Reapers lol.

  • Awesome tale mate! Well done. I myself managed to reach athena lvl5 in a solo sloop it was possibly more nerve racking then most things I've done on the seas. I'll have to get my tall tales in order so I can also utilise it like yourself! Jolly good read mate.

  • @donny-b3ast Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) and yes, there's something about raising Athena makes the voyages feel so much more exciting.

  • I once solo slopped my way to Level 5 Athena emissary and two ashen Athena chests. Took 6 hours, and I was constantly afraid of attack. Painful. Good on you for getting away successfully!

  • As soon as I'm past lvl3 I begin to really be situation aware. I'm a bit thrown that no one comments on some of the stories on here. Some are quite dry and to the point, But then u have the others that just flow and drip with adventure. I've enjoyed this tale as well as others.

Keep em commin like a Meg who showed up after you just began to engage on the high seas!
