Whirlpools.

  • So before I had talked about some cross platform nerfing, but that was on the wrong path of knowledge, and I had a small last sentence of Whirlpools, so here is a more in-depth look at what I was talking about. Whirlpools, I see them as a very pirate thing you come across, just like a fierce storm, or a Kraken, or the Megalodon.

and basically I would think it would be in The Storm somewhere, and more abundant in The Wilds than most other places, and it will suck you in taking a lot of control of your steering, and the only way to get out of it is to get like 2 people on the wheel and angle your sails to go at a fast point, that will depend on your ship, and if you can't get out of it in X minutes, you will sink into the whirlpool, it will also damage your ship due to the large waves. (sorry if you hate it, its just an suggestion)

  • It was downed to 5 ships / 20 players max to help with hit reg.

  • It's a server problem my guy, not a user end hardware issue. The game servers are too 💩 for even 5 ships near eachother without constant major issues.

  • @comrade-molly oh ok, I was guided wrong I guess. I asked my friend who plays the game and he said otherwise, so that just leaves the whirlpools, unless thats a flaw.

  • Rare, please upgrade your servers. 😊

  • YES! would be fantastic to see on sea of thieves, I feel more aspect like these would be great for the community entertainment!

  • @cashmachine7583 But you can't put 2 pirates on the 1 wheel - the game doesn't allow for it. That means once you've gone into the whirlpool, it's an automatic sink. And what about solo sloop pirates? Will they not have a recourse to escape either?

  • @galactic-geek its a suggestion my dude, your thinking way to deep. Alteration would come into play of course to make centain escapes possible and seem dramatic like ( 2 people holding a heavy steering wheel / but with the smaller boats would be good to only have 1 be able to get out since people do solo brig and sloop).

  • Cool idea. Waterspouts would be fitting too.

Except wheels were never made for 2 - and I'm not just talking about in-game. Since when do you ever see 2 people at 1 wheel in any scenario?

Even if the gameplay was altered to allow for it, does this mean each ship could now turn more quickly with 2 pirates (just like with the sails or capstan)? And does that mean it'll be slower with just 1? What if 1 pirate wants to go left while the other wants to go right? Do you see now the kinds of unnecessary problems that arise from this?

  • @galactic-geek I don't think he's stuck on the '2 person on one wheel' judging from his previous comment, seems like a thought on how to get out of the actual idea (whirlpool). Having some flotsam around the whirlpool you could harpoon to pull yourself out would work I think.

Ooh, I kind of like that idea actually. It makes sense that other random things will be dragged into it, and increases the utility of the harpoon. Still, wat could be heavy enough to pull a ship out?

  • @galactic-geek In a game with living skeletons, curses, krakens, megs, taking parrots and mermaids; I don’t think realism comes into play and shouldn’t be analyzed as such lol. Maybe a simple change of angle in the sails and a good man on the wheel could be all that’s needed to escape one of these

  • Whirlpools are like Ice and Snow zones.

An indication that Rare has as little imagination as it's playerbase.

I think Rare has better imagination than whirlpools for SoT.

  • @galactic-geek Well when its come's to whirl pool water currents they can be extremely aggressive against the rudder, which is why when your in the storm the wheel move's, so i would expect that the rudder would be a a lot harder to control. Saying that the currents may get so heavy against the rudder it could throw someone off the wheel which in terms would be the reason why 2 should/may need to hold on to it.

Make the wheel turn quicker... of course not?? And to be honest in response to that left & right its an obvious answer since there is resistance it would just stop like if someone was pulling the other way on a anchor. it wouldn't be problem my dude, its just a learning curve.

The sea is a dangerous place, all players should be prepared for the worst.

i want it like the maelstrom battle from pirates but fix the servers first

  • @galactic-geek its the unreal engine unfortunately holding the game back

The Unreal engine may have its faults (what engine doesn't?), but it's still 1 of the most prolific engines in the business. There aren't many that can compete with it.

  • @galactic-geek
In rough conditions, ships that only had a lever to control the rudder would often need two people pulling the lever with max strength to fight the ocean currents.

What? Imagination has nothing to do with it. Your comment is ridiculous... so one of the criteria for adding something to the game is that people can't have heard of it? People know what whirlpools are so it is a bad idea? Whirlpools are cool, just because they already exist, similar to many of the things in SoT, that does not mean they wouldn't make a good addition to the game.

It's like chasing whales and snow zones in the Sea of Thieves, it just doesn't seem like any fun to me.
But hey, I said the same thing about fishing.

Forum fodder while I wait to see what Rare does next.
