Nothing major but... please no more bad visbility skyboxes

  • I just watched another exciting battle from a certain Twitch-streamer on Reapers Hideout.
    Glorious as always I had say but something was different this time.

    If the storm visits that island, or the FOTD respectively, visbility just becomes complete garbage.
    Yeah - this is no fun to watch or play in.
    It is really boring. I never liked it.
    I hoped it might feel cool at some point ... but in the end it never did.

    The fog feels fresh and mysterious at least.
    But this gray muddy bad visibility just looks boring as hell.
    Just melachonic and depressing yeah. Not suited for a place of epic combat.
    Wether at Reapers or the FOTD.

    It is nothing too major of course.
    People will play even if those skyboxes stay as ugly as most faces in the character editor. ^^
    But maaaaaaan are these skyboxes underwhelming.
    Like 'The Wilds' skybox just 4 times as unsightly.

    So my suggestion is to turn the visibility unnaturally high by adding a bright skyline among the entire horizon, similar to how the fogs looks from afar.
    Make the sky higher up dark and menacing and give the sea a darker color as well.
    But stop with this gray muddy mist please.

    Its so ugly.

  • @odyssee-mit-tee I actually don't mind about the skybox at FotD or the Wilds, but reapers hideout it doesn't feel right...a bit of a fog maybe would survice, also from the outside seeable... but seeing everything "normal" from each direction and then getting close and all is just foggy and cloudy in such a tiny area...never understood that decision

    It is even worse with the FOTD and if you come in with superwind, it can become a partial smokescreen and alot of stuff (defense side kegplays) can go on during that crucial moment.
    Not sure if I like it that much.

    And with Reapers,
    you also have this annoying situation that you cannot easily look in all directions while selling and if you are unlucky, you are ambushed before you know it.
    Happened to me once actually and I lost my ship only because I parked lazily. ;)
    I park lazily for once and THEN a Gally shows up. (snort)

    But oh well I wanted renown 100, not the loot I lost.
    Helped me to get back to renown level quicker actually.
    Not like I feel I would ever reach 8 million gold in the next 2 years to buy the super-visibility-actual-advantage-sails. ^^

    Before that island became the Reapers Hideout, the skybox there was normal too.
    It is just such an annoying and unnecessary tryhard "edgelord ambient" effect.
    And it looks not as impressive and cool as Rare thinks.

    That's actually a good thing...
    Just go on top of the reaper building to look around...
    The only advice for this situation is the same as for people who want PvE servers, or people who say "...ship came out of nowhere...": watch your surroundings

  • I actually posted a topic about this last week.

    "Just a quick suggestion to change the skybox coloring of the Fort of the Damned and The Reaper's Hideout area more distinct. Instead of the same Green Yellow haze/sky coloring similar to the Wilds, Reaper's feels like it should be a red skybox to match the pit and the FOTD would look better with a purple/violet tint to create an even more eerie atmosphere. The FOTD is a bit better because it's a darker green, but there is already so much green sky with the wilds.
