I just wanted to voice my problem with the Glitterbeard quest. My problem is NOT with the story, it's with the forced cooperation. Are Rare even playing their own game because if they did they'd not how hard getting other crews to work with you is. I've been playing this game since September 2019 and I've managed to get about 5 crews to work with me. The rest either ignored me or tried to kill me and/or sink my ship. Most people now just try and sink you for fun or spawn camp you until you leave or scuttle. In the past week, I've been sunk or nearly sunk whilst anchored next to an island and every time, they knew I had no loot nor an emissary flag but attacked me anyway. The worst one was during a solo ashen lord fight when an OOS emissary brig sailed next to me, sent someone to check if I had loot (I didn't, no emissary flag as well, and I saw them on my ship and they weren't sinking me), sunk me and just left, they weren't even there to fight the ashen lord. I was going to try and find all the journals until I heard that the last part required 8 people. 8! I normally play solo or with one friend and galleons are extremely rare so I'd have to somehow bring an entire server to the same place at the right time and coordinate them to do the right thing without anyone griefing. With the current state of the community, that's near impossible. All I ask is that we can do the quest alone or maybe with one other person.
My problem with the Glitterbeard quest
So, I think it is important to remember the reason for this cosmetic item to exist in the game in the first place.
From the stories and information given by Rare themselves, this was added due to an all to early passing of a much loved employee.
The employee had his own ways of enjoying the game and I think it is beautiful that they have honored him the best way they can within the game. By creating this homage to him that makes stop and think for a while and makes us cooperate within the game and see the game from the perspective that he, himself, enjoyed a lot.It is okay that there is items within this game that is not easy to acquire. Let there be some challenge in these things, there are plenty of very nice and decent looking cosmetics that are easier to get.
What is great about this? Flying these sails when you finally get them or spotting them on the sea, shows you want to help honoring his legacy with the company. And also, you would know whoever have the sails have shown they can put down their cutlass and pistol to work together for the greater good within the game.
Let the sails keep their meaning and special place within the game, please.
Thank you.
