So we have a big Gold sink... what about a Doubloon sink?

  • While there are varying opinions on the matter, I am a huge fan of the Dark Adventurer Set, and having blown all 26 million coins that have been collecting dust since I purchased everything, gold once again means something to me. I was glancing at my money, the other day, and I thought, hmmm... I have a lot of doubloons!

Now the easy solution, and, a solution I wouldn't necessarily be against, make a Dark Adventurer recolor/reskin that takes the reapery skull logo, replaces it with a bilge rat icon, and recolor it to be doubloon-colored blue and maybe have some grey and black on it, instead of red and grey and black. Have it have absurd prices just like the original, except it costs doubloons! Like I said, I personally wouldn't mind this, so long as it was different enough, but I understand and respect that many pirates would not enjoy this method.

They could also add entirely new stuff that's not necessarily part of one set, kinda like how they've previously been doing the Black Market, but I don't think that would be as good as a solution.

There could also be a rework to the amount and pricing that you trade doubloons in for gold for, because, currently, it's very very wasteful. 50 doubloons for just 10000 coins. It was originally 20 doubloons for 10000, a much more worth-it investment.

No matter how Rare decides to implement this, I feel that sooner or later, we should get a considerable Doubloon sink. Thoughts?

  • @klutchxking518 i was just discussing this with some pirates as well. Sitting at just over 30k doubloons it would be neat to ha e something tied to their spending rather than the poor conversion to gold.

  • the issue right now with reaper chests is that they gutted the rewards for them so much that they are not even worth grabbing unless it's beside the outpost that you first load into.

The exchange rate is stupidly unbalanced and should be adjusted to be fair.

i would love to be able to sell reaper chests to any faction and for every faction to have cosmetics that you need to use dabloons on.

But if you choose to take the risk to carry it around or sell it at reapers than it should be worth more than at any other faction for balance purposes and to sway people from spending dabloons elsewhere.

  • @flintlock-dan doub loons.

But yes, I like your ideas as well!

  • @klutchxking518 thanks

  • @klutchxking518 How about an entire ship set with the theme of doubloons (glowing or otherwise)? Whether you like glow or not, we should have a glowing blue set.

  • I have been speculating that that new building under construction may be bilgerat store where you can spend doubloons for something, was it cosmetics, voyages or something new.

If i remember correctly Larinna said something in lines of she has other plans for bilgerats and is running black market for dukes sake.

Rare knows we need stuff to do with gold n doubloons, gold side is being worked on with monthly full clothing, tool n ship sets and one extra clothing set each month and now quickly with dark adventurer (they said it won't be the final solution) so why have they been waiting so long for doubloon skin... Unless they already got plans?

  • @grumpyw01f frozen horizon and another emporium set glow blue.

    But I always welcome more.

  • @ninja-naranja Oh true, my bad, I just rarely remember emporium cosmetics when thinking about this kind of thing lol. Yes,
more glowing blue would be nice.
Red - Reapers Heart/ Reaper Emissary Ledger
    Orange - Ashen
Yellow - Gold Hoarder/Merchant Alliance emissary ledger, sails of union
    Green - Ghost, Soulflame
    Blue - Mermaids? Frozen Horizon
Purple- nothing rn i don't think but would be cool. Amethyst Islehopper Emporium Ship? lol

Blue needs the most love, it would be cool to have purple, and red and yellow are underrepresented in non premium currency cosmetics.

I haven't used my doubloons to exchange for gold ever in fear that they would release something worth a ton of doubloons.

  • @grumpyw01f same. And not like I have that much trouble getting gold.

  • Doubloons should serve as a premium currency in my opinion to either A) increase gold reward, B) wager / win more doubloons, or C) win access to cosmetic items.
I agree there are not nearly enough ways to spend doubloons currently, or they are mediocre at best; converting to gold is useless, buying cosmetics outright is boring / not different than gold.

Buying voyages with them is the only thing in the current system that works, but the voyages appeal to a small niche of players / objectives within a session (thieves haven runs, buying keys / ritual skull). They should become a currency you spend regularly, multiple times per session ideally.

They used to be so appealing to earn, partly driven by the unknown of what in the future they are going to be used for (a mystery which still exists to this day...) A lot of the bilge rat voyages in the past all rewarded doubloons for doing things well, which set them up as a currency to be treasured. Most fondly, the rag and bone crate voyages required some creativity to capitalize on the doubloon gain, and encourage a fair amount of cooperation. Delivering on time = doubloons, not on time = gold.

They should introduce new voyages purchasable only with doubloons that players can actually fail at, or competitive voyages that multiple crews can participate in / challenge one another to.
They could function similar to the emissary flags, players would pay to opt into a competitive voyage for increased rewards, paying doubloons in the process. This voyage would exist in limbo until another crew also opts in as the challenger. At this point, a time and place could be set for the competitive voyage to commence.

The key is making something like this a zero sum game so that alliance servers can't marginalize doubloons even more.

Maybe ships should even be forced to server migrate to compete and participating ships should be disallowed from alliancing after / migrated away again.

Anything to make actual skillful, difficult, rewarding content that can't be broken by alliance servers, and which acts as a legitimate sink that can't be quickly replenished.

  • Spend doubloons on the gold piles. With my doubloon count, I can buy 5million gold...

  • It will prob come, why else do we pile up doubloons now when the blackmarket are dead?

I have like 25k and the pile is just getting bigger, i however refuse to buy gold for it....gold is easily obtained in other ways.

  • @reapinglegion agreed. its way easier to get 1 million gold than it is to get 5000 doubloons

  • There is no need for them, I say get rid of them completely.

  • Think of it as score points or something...
