Just clarifying since this post got revived again. Gold rush is 6-7pm Pacific Time in the US as of Mar 14th. This post was made before the time change. Still hoping they change how gold rush is displayed and standardize it.
I meet a lot of confused pirates on the seas, and even had to withhold loot from my crew once who were turning in 1 min early to save them from themselves.
PSA in case anyone else is as confused as me about how time zones works.
One of the advertised gold rush times is 18:00 - 19:00 PDT time. Many people, myself included, thought we were so smart to say:
"Hey, I graduated first grade, I can subtract 12 from 18:00 and understand that gold rush starts at 6pm tonight!"
Not so... this gold rush is 5pm - 6pm PT, at least for the next week or so.
Then it should go back to being 6pm-7pm Pacific time once we "spring forward" (but don't quote me on that - I'm just realizing now how oblivious I was & how much extra gold I could've made)
PDT stands for Pacific Daylight Time - which we currently are not observing, but commences on March 14th, 2021.
Currently, we are on PT or PST, which is actually one hour earlier than 18:00 PDT. It doesn't help that if you google search PDT time, it gives you Pacific Standard Time instead.
Daylight savings is super antiquated & is the source of a lot of confusion, see below from Last Week Tonight:
My recommendation to Rare:
Just keep it consistent and use UTC for everything. Yes, we will need to google it and substract, but the whole spring forward / fall back thing is a nightmare for you to manage, and ends up getting people confused when the text doesn't change in-game or on Google to reflect the new standard being used.
Add a timer in the top right corner that says "1 hour until Gold rush!" or "15 minutes remaining of Gold Rush!" or some in-game lore equivalent to help visually show when it is time.
