You could add an ice biome where you would need a ram to cut through the ice but its only accessible at the pirate hide out this would add more difficulty because if you stopped moving for a great length of time the ice could form around the ship stopping it from moving unless the crew breaks it
New biome for pirate legends or high level players
why should any significant content be gated?
was one of the first design decisions that SoT wont do that aka horizontal progression that dont matter beside your look and style.me personally is against any ice themed stuff as it doesnt fit my pirate associations and that said i'm not a big fan of PotC, but a fan of Monkey Island for example.
Ice pirates belong to space for me.
1)Making entire areas of the map exclusive to legends is counterproductive given the current game system. It’s similar to the Athena voyages. They’re supposedly legend exclusive but most players who hit PL are already Athena 5+ from sailing with other Pirate Legends. PL exclusive cosmetics in a new biome is reasonable but to restrict the entire area is unrealistic.
2)Rare has said that the servers have kinda reached a size limit. They already have to limit the ships per server so expanding the map would discourage player interactions even more. Besides the population, the map size itself is pretty limited by system requirements and lore (Shores of Gold and Maiden Voyage Island).
3)I know Pirates of the Caribbean pulled it off, but an Arctic biome really has no place in pirate stuff without killing the tropical vibes. I’d much rather see a swamp area or an underwater Atlantis type kingdom.
@yungkrusty I agree with most of your points. Except for when you said that the Shores of Gold and Maiden Voyage island are limitations... It's not hard to move them to make more room. The shores of gold has already had it's location adjusted a bit to hide it better from outside. As for Old Sailor's Isle, they could simply have you enter the Sea of Thieves via a portal rather than sailing directly through it to open up that south area.
And about the Ice region... Do I think it's a thing that needs to be added? Yes, absolutely. Do I think it should be the first of many regions to come? No. Not at all. A swamp, a desert, a mountainous region, more expansion to the Sea of the Damned, and Underwater expansion need to happen first.
Why and when did "ice areas" become a must have??
That said, I dont mind a place or Voyages. That only pirate legends can use or access. and I mean, only THEY can use and gain anything from.
- Your crew can come along, but any reward given like new title for completing it wont be given unless you too are PL.

Literally people only want a polar biome because of the Devil's Roar. People feel like you can't have a fire-themed area without also having an ice-themed one to match it.
Personally, such a region would break the theming of the game and ruin my immersion. If we wanted to create a new region that acts as the "opposite" of the Devil's Roar, we should make it so conceptually, not literally. So instead of an icy region with appropriate environmental hazards, this new region should be a low-risk, low-reward region with fewer hazards.
@blam320 I agree. People automatically assume a fire region warrants an ice one but they forget that the theme of the game is tropical. The main argument against this is that it’s a “magical sea with talking skeletons so anything can happen”. Imo just because you can add a 60 foot statue of Danny DeVito to a pirate game under the premise of “magic” doesn’t mean you should.
