I have long wandered into this den, looking for a solution to my bewilderment.
I haver never found it, devaluating my intent.
Will it ever be possible to play with more than 4 players?
We are a group of five, always leaving one drinking alone some liqueurs.

@falkons3720 maybe one day we get a feature to join with a 2nd ship, but a bigger crew? Probably not
I really doubt we will be able to play with 4 players in the convential sense (I.E - we create the lobby etc - not alliance servers).
I can't see them adding in the ability to have more than one crew per server as this would through the balance of the game out. Whilst alliances do exist in the game, it's by design, based on a fine balance where you can betray/be betrayed at any point.
The only way we'd get bigger crews, is through the addition of a new ship type, however given the current server limitations and the issues surrounding balancing a bigger ship type, then I really can't see this being added.

It is frustrating, but there's always going to have to be a limit somewhere. Pre-made alliances probably mess up the balance – unless servers specifically for them were developed. I guess in the absence of any other solution, you could run a brig and a sloop? If you end up in different servers and don't want to hop, then you can still all be chatting outside the game, and writing two adventure stories at once?
This is the reason why either of my two sons or any of their friends don't play this game. There are always more than 4 of them in a party at any given time and they all like to play together. And on this game, it's just not really possible, and so they never do.
I would imagine this is similar for many other players with a lot of friends online. Could the game be missing out on many more active players by only limiting 4 friends per server..
And yes, I'm well aware of all the possible cheesing of commendations/events should we ever get the option to join the same server as friends.@doomscorp said in Will it ever be possible to play with more than 4 players?:
unless theres a 4 person brig or 5 person gally, i said it would be limited time just to see how the expirience plays out
I would not want something that is most likely broken to appear in the Adventure, even if for a limited time. If brig and galleon also become unsinkable, fights become a matter of who has the most supplies.
Maybe make it a special lobby in the Arena. Would be interesting if the custom servers will allow such scenarios.

They can't add bigger crew sizes, a bigger map or bigger lobbies because they are still trying to stay compatible with the original Xbox. If they ever dump them, the sky is the limit.
The PC system requirements are extremely low, and the game is playable on virtually any PC. Dropping support for XB One would not help much unless Rare wants to make a mid to high-end computer the minimum requirement.
