Secrets of the Diving Bell

  • Hey Rare - Great work. Apologies ahead of time if this was already thrown out there:

My buddy and I are having a hell of a time on the SoT. Never played anything quite like it. We have recently experienced the joy of exploring shipwrecks. It brought to mind a new mechanic that would be an amazing thing to add to the game: diving bells. How awesome would it be to go DEEP - see some beautiful and freaky things down there. Find wrecks on the sea floor. Follow those skeleton crews that dive under the waves. Get chased by the Kraken. Get some treasure - maybe catch air bubbles to swim out to dangerous spots, a la Subnautica.

It would also layer in to the risk/reward/teamwork/pvp stuff well. Was thinking you could raise and lower it like the anchor system, by turning a crank or something. Having multiple people turn would make it go faster. Maybe you have to choose between carrying a dingy, or the diving bell instead? Someone still up on the boat could guard, and bellow air down into the bell to extend the time you could stay down there. PVP-wise it would plant you stationary and make you vulnerable to attack; high risk/high yield. (Maybe you come back up from the diving bell to find a rival waiting on your deck, pointing a gun at you and demanding the fresh loot?)

Anyway - just a thought. Keep up the great work.

  • Okay - a cursory google shows I'm far from the first person to throw this out there. I stand by the concept, though! Think the possibilities would be exciting for both players and developers. Maybe you're already secretly working on it... or prototyped it and decided it just doesn't work.

  • This is nice, it can rise exploration even more!
