Plunder Pass Items.... Meh!

  • Look, the items could have been better. Red glowing guns are already in the game. And as for the $10 for $40 worth of pirate emporium stuff, If I didn't spend my money to get it the first time why would I want it now.

At level 100 you get glowing eyes, this is cool. But, it could have been better. For example "Name Your Ship" would have been better than half of what is in this battle pass.

To me it seems like more than half of what the player base actually wants in the game falls on deaf ears over at Rare.

  • Don't buy it. If it doesn't sell, Rare will need to do something better next season.

Don't care about the rest I finally got my burt reynolds pose so I'm happy

All I need now is a bear rug and a fireplace

  • @d3adst1ck so true

  • @spoiler5544 - Just choose not to buy it. You can also choose to buy it down the line to claim any rewards that you have stacked up from renown.

  • @vin-the-rat I get that. I'm just a frustrated pirate that wants to name his ship, or get items for a customizable captains quarters, or a Wheel barrel that allows me to turn 3 chests at a time ( we can put 3 skulls in a chest why not a wheel barrel).

how cool would it be to see a ship in the distance and look through your spy glass and see the name of the vessel and the captain of the crew?

  • Now that plunder pass is actually here it's no longer debatable that it's some negative thing for the game ( for the first 3 months). It's not

It's a good deal for some people and completely unnecessary for many. They get to make some money and this doesn't harm the game at all. Which falls in line with how they have worked the emporium so far. This is consistency and consistency is great for loyalists.

In my opinion fans of the game should be happy about what it's not rather than what it is. It's not a nickel and dime game ruiner it's just a flat out good deal for some that are new or held off buying.

  • Correct; vote with your wallet.

I've bought Apex battle passes before, and I have no problem supporting once I feel that the developer is making changes for the good of the game. In this instance, I feel that the developers have neglected PvP, not just by ignoring the Arena, but also by not providing any substantial changes to any of the Trading Companies to encourage players to engage with each other in a meaningful and creative way.

Cursed cannonballs, chainshots, flameheart, are all excellent additions to the game that were out before I even started playing. Where is that kind of content? Everything that has come out since I've been playing has been a PvE fetch quest for loot.

I'm not saying it has to be a new weapon, or cannonball, but anything to facilitate enjoyment from PvP, especially from the crowd that prefers PvE, would be worthy of the $10.

  • Season one is just a stepping stone. Get everyone to understand how it works and if you even care. Future seasons will improve.

Kids today, always disappointed by small stuff.

  • @burnbacon no matter what rare does people are never gonna be satisfied.

This season's pass is pretty obviously not aimed at everyone. People should speak with their money but this isn't exactly some hill to even fight on let alone die on. They are offering a good deal to people coming into the game and people that perhaps couldn't afford some of the stuff before or are just looking for a good deal now.

This is just essentially a glorified sale bundle for the first 3 months which is an awesome way to ease into a pass system

A large majority of it is noT only free but it will be fun to unlock with daily activities

They are listening about gold sinks. I spent 25 million on new items this morning before I even touched my ship

This merchant mission is every bit as awesome for the faction as vaults and ghost ships were for theirs

The free content is pretty incredible compared to pretty much any other game.

pvp? runners run and fighters fight. That's largely luck of the server. There are a lot of players on this game now and a majority of them don't wanna fight. You can give them incentives (which already exist) but they don't wanna fight a lot of the time. It's their personality and preference not a flaw within game design.

Updates in general are great for pvpers. New voyages turn the seas into a predictable and well populated hunting ground .

  • @wolfmanbush

I agree with you in a sense, but there's always an opportunity cost to developing these features. Resources are finite, and the more spent on features or content that doesn't interest me, potentially means less spent on features that I would like to see.

Would purchasing this battle pass encourage them to make more PvE content? I don't know. It's weird because I'd be paying for cosmetics and not gameplay mechanics — but what I really care about is the latter.

I'm happy about what it's not, sure, but not thrilled about what it is either.

This I disagree with. As you stated, there are incentives which are designed to encourage player interaction, and I think there is still room for improvement. But alas, we are talking about the Battlepass, which is fine in its own right.

  • Stop asking for name your ship. Rare is aware but it’s not something simpler to implement. They know people won’t be satisfied with ship names just floating in text above the ship as if it was a pet name.

  • Just be appreciative dude. Nobody forced you to buy the pass. They gave us 40 dollars of Cosme for 10. At least show some sort of gratitude.

  • @illbushido305 Sorry telephone tough guy. I didn't mean to put you in a bad mood. I didn't buy the pass nor will I. Enjoy your next 3 months with one new quest and some items in the pl cave.

  • @burnbacon leave it to a child to assume that everybody on the internet is a child. I get it season 1 has to start somewhere, but not with my money.

While I understand the frustration some users feel from seeing the constant request for things such as this, related to the long previous mentioned "Captaincy Update", I also understand (and am a part of) the group that is frustrated that we haven't even heard nary a word on the Captaincy update since Year 1 of the game.

The Patch Notes/Tweets/Videos/etc. talking about Season 1 also state that there are going to be events during each Season as well (i.e. Grogmany, Festival of Giving, etc.). Events are still a fairly new feature and I am personally excited to see how these events will fair out and evolve.

No one is asking you to spend your money. It is only an option, if you so choose. While I have my gripes about the Season, I do not think the Plunder Pass is an issue. It is completely optional, a good return on investment if you give the time needed to get to 100 in the Season, and not to mention there are tons of things earnable in the free tiers. A lot of people make comparisons to other games and their battlepass tier system, but neglect to mention that in a lot of those games the free rewards are few and far between with a heavy focus on the paid tiers being the majority of the rewards. Rare has not done this, and I for one appreciate it.

Either way, it is your money, your time, and your choice. No one can or should tell you how to spend it.

  • @spoiler5544 The Plunder Pass is entirely optional for exactly this reason!

If there is nothing that takes your fancy in any given Season, then there is no need to purchase the Plunder Pass.

The Pass can be bought at any point during a Season and anything you would have unlocked prior will still be unlocked.

Everything else unlocked as part of the renown progression is free to all.

If you don't want/need anything from the Plunder Pass...don't buy the Plunder Pass!

  • @triheadedmonkey I know that. And I won't because like you said "If there is nothing that takes your fancy in any given Season, then there is no need to purchase the Plunder Pass."

  • @spoiler5544 said in Plunder Pass Items.... Meh!:

Im not in a bad mood bud. Your replies all seem a bit more aggressive compared to me telling you to be appreciative. There will be events and activities and such throughout the three month period.

  • @illbushido305 As players shouldn't feel entitled and ask for more that Rare can do, they have no duty to be grateful to Rare for everything Rare does regardless of wether they like/approve it or not.

Oh yes Rare gave me the chance to get 40$ worth cosmetics for just 10!!! If I don't buy them even for 10$ guess how they are worth to me: 0$. So why would I be grateful for stuff I don't care about in the first place?

Stuff have different value to people based on their thoughts on it (and economic availability obviusly), some people would have still bought some ship sets they really like for double the price but still wouldn't buy the one they dislike for half. 40$ is the price set by Rare but doesn't reflect the true value of the cosmetics for people, which is actually subjective. Not all players are meant to like this and player who don't are free to share their opinions, giving answers like yours or "then just don't buy it" make no sense to me, seems like you are not even trying to get his point of view northe reasons people share feedback and complaints: which usually is their way to help Devs improving the game.

Also: I don't care about getting the Plunder Pass so to me it's not a problem, but if I'd want to buy it I'd still see a lot of problems with it as a consumer:

    1. It gives completely random items.
Also some items are part of a set, if I like one of those it would still pretty pointless to get it in a 10$ pack since I'd still have to buy the rest of the set on the PE. Specially ship sets: an entire set can be worth its full price, but singular pieces are not worth a fraction of it. Alone they are almost useless. In a cosmetic system that lacks recolors it is way harder to combine different sets, single pieces of a set are often not used.
    2. If you already have the items on the Plunder Pass it is worth less for you than to other players.
This feels very odd: players who actively supported the game are getting less value, not saying they necessarily need to get their AC back but the system completely lacks a solution to this.
I spent 0$ on PE so I personally don't care, but to me it feels very weird that Rare didn't come up with something here. What would these kind of players be gratful for anyway?

Just be appreciative dude. People have different opinions and thoughts, they have the right to not feel grateful for everything and complain about the stuff they do not like.
