Fort of the Damned lvl 2, Stacking Incentive

  • There are those who have been requesting a “Player Controlled Fort” and I have an idea of how that could be done, however it is perhaps a little convoluted and overly complicated, so I thought a small adjustment to the FOTD might be a better solution. So the main draw of the FOTD is as a relatively quick way to earn, one or multiple Athena Chests, which both encourages players to attempt it, and encourages other players to try to steal it from them. Well I thought since stacking, multiple rounds of loot, is already a thing, it might be interesting to provide an extra incentive to do so. So I was thinking that a pedestal could be added to the FOTD (probably near the Ritual Skull Altar) upon which you place an Athena Chest. By doing this you will spawn Skeletons in the towers that surround the fort, providing a little extra protection for your crew, should you wish to attempt a second FOTD. It might Perhaps take a couple of minuets for these skeletons to spawn, so they can’t be switched on and of like a light, and yes if the Athena Chest is removed from the pedestal, for more than say a minute, then your protective skeletons will despawn (although I guess they could just spawn after the successful completion of the Fort, if you’d prefer). Additionally by placing an Athena Chest on the pedestal you might also light up the flames in the ritual chamber, providing a ‘short cut,’ of sorts, to collecting all the colours. It might also be desirable to add one or two more towers to the fort in order to improve it’s cannon fire coverage, and it might be interesting to make the skeletons that spawn in these towers, Gold Skeletons to make them a bit more difficult to deal with, and maybe include a sniper skeleton in some of the towers to provide a little protection from Tuckers. Perhaps a few more boulders(along the shoreline) could be added to provide tuckers with a bit more cover. I feel like these changes would make the fort more interesting and challenging, both for those who attempt it and for those who wish to steal it.
You could potentially raise the stakes even higher, for a second round stack, by having the Skull in the sky change colour to maybe gold or green, when the Athena Chest is on the pedestal, and perhaps have a second Athena Chest or other Athena loot spawn for the second round.
I do feel quite a bit of reluctance to share my ideas on this forum, because it’s unlikely that I’ll get any credit for them, but I guess I can’t help but think of them and when I do it’s difficult not to want to share them with people and make my voice heard. Although I am basically just putting together various aspects that already exist within the game in a slightly different way. I do hope that people will recognize the merit of this idea and that maybe we’ll see some version of it implemented into the game in the future.

  • @one-eyed-curly I like it. I wouldn't mind seeing this implemented for normal world events as well. A sort of 'expert mode' version of the events, that are harder, but provide more rewards. You get an item from the world event, and then use that item to begin the expert mode run. Sounds cool.
