While playing I noticed boarders dont have much to do on a ship after killing everyone. Sure they can throw some firebombs but those take forever to bring the ship down and often, the crew respawn, kill the boarder and put out the fires. Then I thought it would be great if the boarder could use a crowbar to pry boards off the holes re-opening leaks. Solo players would benefit too since they obviously cant be firing their cannons while aboard an enemy vessel.

i think a boarding axe would be better for what you want
Its a sounds nice on paper but no. A full crew getting onto an enemy ship could pull out the boards and sink it before the crew even have a single chance of reviving. Same thing even if it was a player by himself on a Galleon.
This could have some really unintended consequences.
If you plan on sinking a ship then you should plan accordingly. Will you use your cannons?? Do you have a keg?? Do you see a keg in the water??
Lots of times if I'm on the enemy ship and my ship is nowhere nearby I never lower the anchor. I kill everyone and just drive their ship into an island or take it near and island with cannons and sink it that way.
Being able to sink a ship simply because you are on a ship is a bad idea. Sorry broski. If you got onto a ship and you realize you have no way to sink it then plan better next time.
@xultanis-dragon Now I know it's bad form to use another game for reference. But I believe capturing a ship should simply... well... sink it. Blackwake already does it with it's own formal boarding system, grapple a boat, board it, kill the whole crew, the boat is fully captured and it instantly sinks, while the crew hopefully respawn elsewhere. Of course it's going to be unfair to lesser and smaller crews, but too many times has it been annoying to be stuck in a lockdown when your enemy refuses to simply scuttle their boat, or for other situations where the crew can lockdown the ship, but fail to keep it locked down only to prolong a fight much longer than it should. The crowbar would put an end to that as you're ensured a victory via boarding, something that while I wish could happen less, is something that just happens and is incredibly effective, I think it should be a little stronger and make the pain less enduring. You already lose when someone boards and kills you, better to have it solidified instead of being stuck with the method of spawn camping.
I agree with @Xultanis-Dragon. Adding this feature would make boarding the defacto victory route. Right now, it's not - it's just the popular one due to how fun it is. Great ship to ship fights are already pretty Rare compared to boarding attempts - I personally wouldn't want to increase that divide.
@praxis01 that suggestion is as old as the game itself...just called differently...
Anyway, what if a ship is completely new, you can't re-open holes, because there aren't any...that creates a disadvantage to crews which are longer on the server...
I'm completely against disadvantages like this, so NO to that idea@nex-stargaze what happens if all crew members are on an island and accidently get all killed at the same time (gunpowder skellie for example) and there is a tucker on theyr ship...does it sink instantly? Just no to that idea
