There are basics that are still broken with the game

  • I have been playing the game a long time. And have noticed a couple of things that have gotten progressively worse as time has moved on from the beta. Perhaps you have also noticed the same things?

1.) Boat / Wave physics have been turned up too far.
This "update" was snuck in at least a year ago with no official notice. Boats became more sensitive to the waves, and as it stands it is a detriment to playing the game. I have noticed this more on the sloops, as the sloop rocks so much during a gameplay session cannon shots can be almost impossible, and you can accidentally walk off the boat as it is pitching around. How the three boat types react to wave physics needs to be revisited.

2.) Navigating the sloop has become a pain in the backside.
Going from the main deck, through the captain cabin and down to the bottom deck can be challenging, as it is possible to get hung up on the invisible borders on the left and right sides of the stair cases. Combine that with the basic navigation issues that are tied in to the first issue and it can result in some frustrating moments.

3.) Hitreg is still a problem
I'll refer to Turkaspy's thread on this: https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/129550/hitreg-has-entered-its-3rd-form

This had been covered better by other players. Gunplay and melee combat in the game does not feel satisfying. I am not sure it ever has felt that way as the primary focus of the game is water / wave physics and boats.

    3.) Barrel stuff
The loading times for barrels has gotten worse over time, sometimes taking 2-3 tries before you can see the supplies to pull from them. It is an inconsistent problem, but not was that was as common in the beginning. Also, typically when you pull supplies from the barrel you automatically move to the next stack when clearing them out, however if you run into a stack you cannot completely pull, it freezes there instead of jumping to the next stack automatically. A minor quibble.

4.) Event tracking still does not reliably work.
I have had about a 10-20 minute delay on registering event tasks for the Grogmany event. Other people have complained the delays are longer. This has been an on-off again issue with other Sea events going back to the Hungering Deep.

There are probably other items that players would like to see on the to-fix list, but it is discouraging to see the game try and lurch into a season model when there are basic quality of life issues that are still broken. It feels like someone selling you a Ferrari with square tires. Is there anyone out there that started at the beginning who feels the same way?

  • Yes the waves are super toxic on sloops, you almost can never leave the wheel for less than a minute or your going off course or sometimes even almost turn around making pvp encounters frustrating as a solo slooper.

As for combat and hit reg issues I don't think either of these will ever be balanced, improved or fixed it's just too complicated and the combat system is to basic to make any real improvements.

  • its hard to go from helm to repair/ bucket on a sloop? wow. its one of the easist ships to do that on. if you cant do that then you would sink on a gal no matter what.

  • @flintlock-dan You gotta set your wheel counter the waves, that way you can get off the helm to repair/bucket, if it really does take you that long.

  • It can actually be a challenge to quickly get below deck between the sloop pitching and the invisible walls a player can get stuck on. Not consistent, but irritating when it happens. I just got done with a quick sail on a brig for bug testing and it felt better - more solid than the tossing and turning physics on the sloop.

  • I hate bumping my head on the stairs! It's a right pain in the 🤬!

  • I can steer my boat it's just a pain in the neck on some waves.
Thankfully I don't care to solo sloop unless my regular crew is offline and I enjoy the multiplayer aspect of the game.

  • The sloop is the smallest ship. Of course waves affect it the most. That's how boats work... If you are gonna take a small ship into rough waters, especially solo, you better hold fast and grow a pair of sea legs really quickly ya landlubbers. You cant just center the helm and expect things to be fine, you have to do a little sailing. The effect of the waves isnt random, you can compensate.

The recent server issues with barrels and events are frustrating. Definitely needs to be prioritized. Especially if they are going to be rolling out the battle pass any time soon.
