Playing on a sloop and a 3rd friend shows up online. It would be great to have an in game system to upgrade your ship. Enter - dramatic pause - “The ship yard”. Sail over to the ship yard, spend some gold, supplies and magically your sloop is a brig ready for a new party of three.
Ship Yards
@alpine-canuck this has been requested for a long time. I still hope they do something for crews that want to change size.
@alpine-canuck i like it as long as many hours of testing for glitches and hacks are done. Many people could do a glitch for somthing like a ship there but its hit box istn, or half the crew transfers to the new ship but the rest doesnt creating a server allience immediatly.
The Sea Dog Tavern is at the center of the old world. It would be cool to turn that into the “Ship Yard” that you spoke of.
Another option would be to give every shipwright at the outposts the ability to change the type of ships. It would have to be like a scuttle option meaning that ALL crew members must agree before trading in your ship.
I would also like the option to pay gold to clean up the ship. Essentially paying gold to make the ship look brand new without actually scuttling the ship. I hate the look of a damaged boat and helm. If there was a pirate emporium glamour effect that hid all damage appearances, I would buy it in a heartbeat
@coffeelight5545 Yes... Agreed.. I don't like the scar marks & patches on my ship body. Please Rare, give us a feature to spare some gold at the shipwright & renew my ship's look.
The Brand New Ship Look..!!
Best of all, we can burn up useless gold and it’s not “play to win” because cleaning up the ship doesn’t give us anything.
I came here to suggest the same thing.
I often stream the game, but start my weekend streams pretty early. A couple hours after I have been on, in a solo sloop, two friend log in to join and my only option is we have to restart to get a brig.
Likewise later in the evenings we typically run a galleon, when one or two of our crew needs to log earlier than the others. Same thing, now we have a two or three person crew on a galleon, if we are mid-voyage and need to drop to a brig or sloop, we have to lose the voyage we were on.
One option we have discussed amongst us is that they should offer a second menu option to scuttle and replace ship spawn with a choice of ship sizes and keep the voyage you are currently on.
Reading the comments here, I like the shipyard idea (and as was said, it gives the Sea Dogs Outpost some purpose) or allow us to swap ship sizes at the shipwrights, all good options.
With six ships per server this wouldn't be game breaking, you still would have the same number of players possible on the server - 6 if all solo sloops, 24 if all galleons... and how often have you seen a server with 6 galleons any way?
I agree that it would be a convenience, but I dont know that it is like a desperate need. Voyages even of the highest level only cost a couple of hundred gold, you get that return on investment pretty instantly with even the lowest level loot in the game. If you are almost done with a voyage, it's probably worth having the new person start the new ship and then just join on them when you have finished up. If you are not almost done, I would just start over with your friends. The voyages are cheap and the game throws so many supplies at you it's not really worth worrying about them. I guess if you are trying to grind out commendations or emissary value it could be a problem. However, I would advise you to not worry about grinding out anything that isnt a time limited event. Its not going anywhere, focus on having fun with your friends and all the rest will come in time, especially if you dont burn yourself out grinding.
@alpine-canuck agreed, this is one of the biggest overlooks in the base system atm.
Which in turn makes me think it must be fast more complicated than it seems, like your ship is built into your crew members and world server or something. I believe they would have changed/added it by now if not
@alpine-canuck I love the idea of being able to change crew sizes mid sessions. But there are a couple things that need to be worked out. Let’s say you’ve been grinding for hours and you spot a brigitine reaper coming after you while you’re sailing a duo sloop, you could just run and upsize your crew to the same size ship casing you and keep everything? Not sure how the mechanics of that would work out. But it would be nice
@vito1700
Number of solutions:
1: Can only change once per hour.
2: Cannot change your ships' size if you've been in player combat for the past ~minute.
3: Must have your ship in range.
4: All crew members must vote.
5: The ship is scuttled, resources from barrels are lost. Treasure is dropped into the sea. All as normally happens as scuttling does to your crew. Except an unanchored ship is placed in a random 1 of 5 locations surrounding the Shipyard and Sea Dog's tavern.@alpine-canuck said in Ship Yards:
Good to hear. Maybe it makes it’s way to the cutting room floor soon.
The cutting room floor is where you don't want it to go if you want it in the game...

Why stop there? What about your pirate? His or her wet and dirty bedraggled clothes? What about a clean shave, or some proper teeth?
I will tell you why...
You are not Pirate Barbie, and your ship isn't a Porsche!
Wear your scars with pride, pirate - and let all those who gaze upon you know that you are a survivor not to be trifled with!
@galactic-geek Remember when someone said that you seem to shut down a lot of ideas for no particular reason? I think this is what they were referring to. You don't want this feature because, well I'm not sure really. It acts as a small gold sink, and doesn't effect anyone negatively at all.

Except it's spitting in the face of all the graphic designers that worked so hard to make everything look imperfect, 'cause pirates.
The suggestion adds nothingtruly useful to the Sea. You might as well go ahead and show them your middle finger. 🙄
Pirates get messy, and their ships get damaged. Deal with it.

You might as well go ahead and show them your middle finger. 🙄Why do we spawn with a clean ship then? If they wanted the ships to have big scratch marks on them they'd make us spawn with them. Also, I wouldn't use the word "imperfect" for massive holes and marks caused by battles. The ships are already imperfect even when not marked. The planks aren't perfectly aligned, water slips through the gaps in the hull and there are marks on the balustrades. Also, the disrespecting the graphic designer argument is weird. I guess me not wearing certain cosmetics because I don't like them is a big middle finger to the people who made them? I'm being very rude by not wearing a dress, curse, pegleg, hook or scar? No, we get a choice in what to wear, because not every cosmetic appeals to everyone. If people like the look of a clean ship, why can't they chose to have one? Just like how I chose to wear the Pirate Lord's jacket, I should be able to chose if my ship is visually damaged.

#1stworldproblemsQoL feature =/= first world problems.
@mferr11 It's the same reason many racing games show damage to cars when they didn't use to - it adds to the experience and helps make the world feel more lived in. Removing that will make it seem more fake or insincere.

Nice view of thinking, even I think the same way too.. Like our ship scars are symbols of our Survivalist nature. Fully Agreed..!!
But, it feels a bit of itchy scratch, when we equip our favorite Pirate Emporium cosmetics on our ship & even a Skeleton sloop marks patches on them. When we play for elongated time, 10-11 hours, do a lot of Flamehearts, Ashen Winds, Skele Fleets etc. at the end of the day, it feels a bit of Unsatisfactory. :)
Still ok, its just a suggestion..!May be shipwright at the Arena tower in the middle of the map can have this feature, that if someone wants, they can Renew their ship condition by investing 5000Gold, or 50 Doubloons may be.
@aceherock Fun fact - if you sail long enough, don't get sunk, and get really dinged up, your ship fixes itself! It's true! I have seen it with my own 2 eyes!

It does the fix, but, to a minimal extent.
