Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum, but I've got a couple of ideas for how to make the game a) more immersive and b) more ship-centred, which I will talk about in future posts. You've probably seen these ideas before, and heard about how some of them would not work, but with some thought, they could add even more to the game. So without further ado...
Now, I understand the problem with this. If Rare lets people name their ships whatever they please, certain players may take advantage and name their vessels something profane or derogatory. Due to this, it makes perfect sense why an unrestricted naming system would not be a good idea. Furthermore, a heavily restricted naming system using a very strict filter would also be unpopular, as anything that might sound like something vaguely offensive would be blocked, even if it means nothing of the sort. These reasons may be why Rare are disinclined to acquiesce to our requests. But fear not! I believe I have a solution! What about a system where ship names are made up of two or three parts (for example, the name for my ship I have made up; the Baccara Rose) and the names are made using hundreds of different adjectives, nouns and such. This way, you could piece together different words to make a name for your ship. It could be up to three words long, and you could leave up to two blank. This would let you use, say, an adjective and two nouns (for instance, the Abysmal Cyclone's Revenge), or an adjective and noun (e.g the Lucky Cutlass). Some of the nouns could be to do with pirates or the sea (e.g Gold, Cutlass, Flintlock, Tide) and others could be flowers or birds, which often make good ship names (e.g Rose, Dove, Gull). The adjectives could be colours (black, lazuli, green, etc.)
Emissaries could also come into play here. For example, if you were a merchant emissary, your ship's name might be preceded with MES (Merchant Emissary Ship). You could even unlock new name parts for your ship if you levelled up in a trading company, similarly to how you can buy exclusive spyglasses, watches, shovels, compasses and the like when you level up in any company.
Have I missed anything? Are there any inaccuracies? Please let me know.
See you in the next post!
