Multiplayer / Matchmaking Issues - Why is this so difficult?

    I have had this game for 2 weeks and have have nothing but nightmares trying to deal with playing with friends. Ill start by saying ALL of this Invite/Xbox/Steam/Friend stuff is ridiculously complicated, especially for a game where most of the people are like 13.

    My Xbox account is linked to my steam, my Xbox shows correct account and SOT shows correct account - I click join friend and literally nothing happens. I spent an hour trying to figure out just how to join 1 friend yesterday, we got everything working and randomly tonight we try to play together and BOOM nothing works again. Please make this stuff less ridiculous - I shouldn't need an IT Background to play with my friends - respectfully.

    Any suggestions?

    Searching forums from 3 years ago isn't helping - as I have already followed all those steps

    -Somebody who just spent 30 mins trying to connect with a friend and no longer has time to play.

    I own the steam version as well, the only way I can join friends is through the xbox game bar. The shortcut is the windows key + G.

    It might seem annoying to use the xbox game bar on pc but it is the key system allowing pc players to play games with xbox players on many microsoft exclusive games. (SoT, Halo, etc.)

    With that said, I find it annoying that I constantly have to visit the microsoft app store to update the game bar because it doesn't seem to automatically update.

    @piratecrob hey hey thanks for the reply.

    So basically - we met randomly, added eachother to steam and xbox bar (windows +g one). The first night I realized it was an issue with which xbox account i was using, got that fixed and we could play together. Now nothing has changed and im running into the same problem. I get to option to "join" him, but all it does it either bring up the SOT games and sit at the menu - or IF I am already logged into the main menu - nothing happens, even spamming the join does nothing but recenter my mouse in game

    You could invite him, or have him invite you through the game. I think in the lobby it is defaulted to the 1 key. In game you go to your crew settings and you can invite. Also, I find going past the main menu sometimes helps, I usually go to the crew lobby before joining others and you need to be in the crew lobby or in game to invite someone successfully.

    If the game bar isn't working I assume you both have to update it. Which is done through the Microsoft App Store.

    Easiest thing is to either invite them or have them invite you while you are both in the crew lobby. I assume your friend was simply not in game or not in the crew lobby.
