Battle Royale-like seasonal map changes.

  • I'm not proposing battle royale don't worry.

But you know how those games have seasons and they usually have a little cinematic or something and a part of the map gets destroyed or opened or closed and for the next few months we have a very familiar but slightly new map?

Perhaps they could do something similar in sea of thieves.

They could do stuff like shift the shroud to make some island appear and others disappear.

They could have a cinematic battle between flameheart and bilge rats and make a ship graveyard region somewhere in the existing map.

Perhaps an outpost could be overrun with Skeletons for a month and there are voyages to free and liberate it back?

Perhaps a cinematic of two pirates fighting could be on one month, a stray shot hits the Galleon on Galleons grave knocking it off revealing a door down inside the outpost revealing a secret dungeon, or just a secret area.

In all honesty, it doesn't matter what my suggestions are and to be honest they probably aren't the best. But the main suggestion, such as little map changes with a story behind them that persists a few months would be cool.

I guess sailing the same map for 2 years, it would be nice to have a little mystery brought back. Change things up a little.

    Goes without saying.
Being part of these events would also create some exclusive and time limited titles.

Were around when flameheart's took over golden sands? Unlock The Golden Sands Champion title etc etc.

Of course each seasonal change would need to maintain balance in the game, it's important afterall.

But sea of thieves has enough Lore and enough game mechanics to feasibly switch things up a lot and still keep the core loop intact.

All depends on how creative they can be :)

  • @daringclarky What crab's shell are you living under? This is already happening!

  • @galactic-geek I meant more like actual map dramatic map changes.

I know reapers hideout and stuff was made and FOTD.

    But those are likely permanent.

I mean more changes that are temporary and actually change the map in a significant way.

Kinda like a cinematic battle which would make stuff like a ship graveyard that makes a particular region more hazardous to cross.

Then a few months down the line something else happens and another thing refreshes the map to make it feel new.

Granted, they have done a lot lately but I thought they were simply just adding permanent features.

  • @daringclarky As much hate as Fortnite gets, I think it did that subtle map changes that lead to a big map/story change really well. I'd love to see something like that implemented in SoT, and as you said, something less permeant. Skeletons taking over an outpost is perfect. Logically it wouldn't last forever, but makes sense to last for some time. You could have the shroud part for only a set amount which allows some small GMU ships to get through. Have some shipwrecks pop up in secret with clues. Stuff like that.

Oh you mean flamehearth spawning and yelling at you the same 3 lines for the next 20 minutes?
Ye, can they delete that one and replace with OPs ideas? I like his far more.
