Size of Crate of Plants - WAY too big

  • Hello,

As some of you may know from my introduction thread, my name is PST1980 (PST stands for PurpleSweetTart) and I am a disabled gamer and new to the game. Today I tried to do my first Merchant Alliance quest and I had to pick up a Crate of Plants. I was completely taken aback by the size of the crate. I have no vision issues but I have coordination issues due to Cerebral Palsy. I could not see where I was going due to the size of the plants.

Would the devs please consider making the Crate of Plants smaller so that myself and others can see where they are going while they are carrying it and looking for the correct NPC?

If I out the crate down to search for the NPC first, it seems to disappear when I try to search for and pick it up again. Unless this is a graphical glitch...

Thank you for considering this request.

  • @pst1980 I've never had a problem with the vision thing, I dont have cerebral palsy, but if you look down you can use some of that extra vision, I've never expirenced items dissapearing when dropped, must you losing them. Try to look down and off the sides of thi ship.

  • @pst1980 the blocking of vision by the plants was actually done specifically, as to make it harder to move whilst holding them. Back in the day when they got introduced.

  • Its deliberate mate

  • I feel your pain, I had my crew while practicing for RoL do the traps on Sailors Bounty with plants so they got used to the muscle memory of using the sounds to find their way because of the darkness.

Anyway, I would recommend, dropping the plants, figuring out which direction you need to go, pick up the plants while still facing that direction, and walk that way. Or you could just be cruel and have your friends do it for you.

  • @turkaspy That’s not being cruel. That’s delegating. They’d probably jump with the run crates anyway.

  • @arctroopachedda Say whatever you want to let you sleep at night.
    lol

  • I didn't know it was deliberate. I don't think the people I sail with sometimes would have a problem helping but I need and want to learn to do things myself because I was raised that it was expected of me to do the things I was/am capable of, so I have to keep trying I guess.

  • I try to focus on part of the screen, usually near the top. The plants sway back and forth, but as long as you focus on the gap, you can see where you're going. It's kind of like looking through a windshield with the window wipers going. That said, I don't know how much harder it may be for you, @PST1980, but I figure it's worth a shot.

  • @pst1980 All of the cargo has some kind of downside to moving it and storing it. The rum bottles are delicate, so they can be broken by your ship taking damage or when jumping/falling while moving. The cloth can get wet, so it needs to be kept in dry areas of your ship and you can't swim with them very much. The plants need to be watered periodically, and since it doesn't make sense to have them wither faster while moving the downside is that they obstruct your view.

You can try to look down and peer over top while moving to see where you're going, or if you're able to you can time a strafe run with the back and forth movement of the plant to see around the sides.
