Controller QOL - Settable Shift/Alt functions

  • Something I've been thinking about for awhile. I play on PC but use a controller. It would be great if the "free" buttons (left d-pad, right d-pad, right stick button) could act as a shift/alt to give other buttons a secondary function. This could be helpful to get around the clunkiness of the radials system or to quickly select and equip an item, on par with quick select buttons on KB&M.

    Examples:

    • Left D-pad + LB = Lantern
    • Left D-pad + RB = Shovel
    • Left D-pad + X = Accordion
    • Left D-pad + Y = Weapon 1
    • Right D-pad + Y = Weapon 2
    • Right D-pad + LB = Planks
    • Right D-pad + RB = Throwables
    • Right D-pad + RS push = Compass

    .... and so on

Ideally, these should be acceptable button combinations when setting controller keybinds, so players can customise them to their liking, similar to the aforementioned "free" buttons currently. For further flexibility, I suggest that if a combo is not set to any other function, the buttons can still be set to act as a singular keybind (i.e. if you don't have left d-pad + [button] set, you can still use left d-pad on its own).

Further discussion and refinement suggestions welcomed

  • @realstyli This would be a great addition, anything that would give the opportunity to separate out the weapon select and secondary interaction would be fantastic.
