i recently played a lot of CoD and i'd like to have the FoV like 100 or 105 even.
Maybe possible we can adjust that a little more?
FoV !?
Agreed, a wider range of FOV options is not only good for preference but also for people that might get sick/nauseas from lower FOVs (i know a few). And as Xbox players can already opt out of playing with PC players, theres no case to be made for it being an advantage, although it would be great for Xbox players to be able to increase their FOV, but i suspect this is a limitation of the console itself (as it requires more performance to render the same amount of frames the higher the FOV).
@glannigan sagte in FoV !?:
All the super nerdy hardcore sweaty FPS people I associate with say for complete accuracy and deadlines you actually want the FOV as low as you can set it believe it or not.
yeah, but im not a super nerdy sweaty FPS guy - i'm 44 singleparent man with a dog playing games in the evening.
I even dont play everyday or for tons of hours ^^I'ts to watch the scenery and feel better regarding motion sickness in total. really just that.
And before someona asks - i'm casual, i dont need this to improve my playstyle - i never improve willingly, because i'm sort of an anti-improve, anti meritocracy thinking when we talk about playing games type of player.
If i improve while playing a game it happens organically or by accident :DI just changed the FoV in CoD and oh wow, i can really much better coordinate myself and it feels less exhausting for my eyes. Thats all, my kd hasn't much improved by this. Still around 1.2 or so what is totally fine for me.
Oh and i love sbmm ad think it's very good implemented :D :D :D@glannigan Idk why you'd want lower FOV even for competitive play, never heard anyone say that in my life. The higher the FOV the more enemies youll spot and the easier it is to keep track of them when moving fast. Increasing your FOV doesnt make "accuracy" any worse, I'm not sure where that comes from.
This is really needed for me. I was going to play the game but the 90 FOV limit here really does not feel like the usual PC game 90. Something is very wrong with the FOV implementation in this game. I really start to get motion sick and feel very constrained :( it needs to go up to 100 or 110 for me to feel comfortable.
Unfortunately, I doubt they will ever add this. Sad.
Edit: I created another thread with more consolidated information, but it was locked for some reason. Anyway, I found a fix for Steam users. It changes the horizontal FOV into vertical FOV, and fixes the issue completely: [mod edit]

This is literally the most useful thing I have ever seen posted on these forums.
For the inevitable complainers: you could already get a higher FoV, you just had to have an ultrawide monitor. IMO this is fair game.

As an Xbox pirate, I don't like this at all! It's such a huge advantage over platform pirates as to be patently ridiculous and tantamount to cheating! And that's on top of all of the other advantages they already had!
Rare, what on earth were you thinking? 🙄
I'll never play with PC pirates again after knowing this! 😩
Bah humbug! 😡

So are Ultrawide monitors "cheating"?
Is modifying FoV with included options in Nvidia GPU software "cheating"?
Because both of those things were already giving people better FoV on PC.
Get over it or opt out.
@comrade-molly That's it! You and me, pirate versus pirate - while I'm using my brother's VR headset! Then we'll see just how much you really like it! 😏

If you're joking nobody can tell because this is completely within the realm of plausibility of something you would complain about.

Glad I could help.
Sadly ultrawide doesn't actually fix the problem. The vertical FOV is locked, which means it feels the same as 16:9, you just get slightly more visible area on the side. The FOV stays the same.
@stundorn i think this is a good idea since Xbox Series X has a bigger Storage they could easily make the FOV more

Although the guide says they don't know if anyone has been banned for doing this, I'd rather see clarification from Rare whether this breaks TOS. I'm not against it, just personally I don't want to risk a day one account.
However, seeing as it's shown that it's possible, and an easy mod, I see absolutely no reason they can't just make it an accessibility feature on all platforms. PCs and Series X should be able to handle this no problem.
Folder does not exist for me.
I had that issue for awhile. Windows wasn't applying my admin rights correctly. It seemed to fix itself with one of the Windows updates (1903 or 1909, I think). But you may just have to make sure your login has those permissions applied.
@realstyli
hmm, i have latest Build 2004 (19041) and i'm Admin.
I can enter AppData for my user etc.
So you have the Store Version and have this folder?
I let windows search for the file my whole ssd and couldnt find it for anything realted to SoT or Athena, but only for games related to Epic Store and Malus (an EA Game on Steam i play)i know where to find the gamerusersettings.ini but adding the line doesnt do anything although the graphic settings are in this file
There was one of the Windows updates that I had to force via the Windows Update Assistant even though my system was saying it was up to date, so it may have been that. I think that was for 1903, the one that brought in the new Xbox App and Game Pass PC.
Prior to that, I couldn't access the WindowsApps folder - it said I didn't have permissions, even though I had admin rights, like you. However, this doesn't require access to that specific folder but a user folder, I'm just guessing the problem is similar.
I play the game on the Microsoft Store version. I've used the address it says in that guide in the Run app just to see if it works and I can confirm that I see the files, so it does work.
Seeing as you said you can enter AppData, maybe make sure you have "show hidden folders" turned on? Or it could be however you installed it the folder is in a different location. Try just entering %LOCALAPPDATA% in the Run app, maybe that might bring up the right folder to navigate from?
Other than that, I have no clue why it would be different for some people.

i did that and no folder.
i also created the folder there and the file i also edited the gameusersettings.ini in the packages folder of SoT.
no effectOther than that, I have no clue why it would be different for some people.
hm i also have no clue, although i work in IT support and also have a Pro version, so no hidden system features or secutity options what are not editable ;D
the fact i can create that folder tells me it is not a folder already existing
@theeggoplant said in FoV !?:
@stundorn you can only do it in the steam version (just FYI)
I don't think this is accurate. I can go to the location in that guide and see the file for the MS Store version. I can open and edit the Engine.ini file mentioned. I'm just not going to do it until, as I said above, Rare clarifies if it's a bannable mod.
I too find myself in the question boat about this.
Some official response from Rare Staff would indeed be most welcome here.I have been playing since launch and have pushed myself through feelings of sickness, headaches and eyestrain with the FoV due to the great joy I receive from merely playing the game.
Thus upon seeing this Guide on steam I for one decided to tested this with the steam version and I'd say for myself that it has improved my play sessions immensely due to no longer getting eyestrain and or sickness feelings after extended periods of play.
However, I'm now left with the question as to if this could be deemed as against ToS?
With not wanting to have my only account tarnished with the ban hammer I have removed this change but fear my long sessions of play will revert to being cut short when aforementioned afflictions arise again.

Turn crossplay off. This is the reason that feature was implemented. If you feel you're at a disadvantage, nobody is stopping you from only playing with Xbox players.
Its time to stop introducing handicaps to PC players like low FOV and low ADS sensitivity in the name of "fairness".
I honestly wish we had a "only play with PC players" option where the FOV was unlocked and the low ADS sensitivity lock was removed.@Comrade-Molly @thecobra7191
Did you both really suggest I opt out? 🤨

Why did you feel the need to post the comment then? And bash Rare for something that is not even their fault BTW; the FOV script is just a default script in UE4 that handles the FOV and how its rendered.
If you posted the solution to your own problem in the original post why did we need to hear it in the first place. You're adding nothing worthwhile to this discussion.
And yes, i suggest you opt out. If you really think a PC player having a few degrees extra FOV is the biggest decider whether or not they'll kill you then you probably shouldn't play with PC players in the first place.@galactic-geek said in FoV !?:

Again, if you're joking, nobody can tell, because this is 100% something I could see you actually complaining about. I don't know if you're really an xbot or not, nor do I really care.
Higher FoV is good and Xbox Series X could easily handle it too. 105 FoV is much more natural on 16:9/16:10 aspect ratios (including television sets) than 90 FoV. It should go up to 120 preferably, because some people don't mind the slight fisheye effect.

Already said this in another thread but theres no actual fisheye effect no matter how high your FOV is. Fisheye and high FOV are two different things. The reason high FOV might appear a bit like fisheye is because everything seems to be much further away than it actually is because the game has to render more horizontally.
Theres a good thread here that shows the difference:
https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/2548xk/fov_and_the_fisheye_effect_learn_the_difference/And i dont think the guy is joking, sadly this is how most of the Xbox community is. Ready to put down whatever ideas or suggestions the PC community has for no apparent reason.
@galactic-geek said in FoV !?:
@thecobra7191 Battlefield awareness is 1 of the biggest advantages you could ever have. Expanded FoV helps provide that.
Rare has been trying to balance the platforms to the best of their ability. This mod or whatever it is, takes that in the opposite direction.
I dont know how much you play the game, but thats really not the case for SoT. 90% of your battles are limited to a long narrow boat that you can see the entirety of in 90 FOV anyway.
As i said before, if you struggled against PC players before, them having more FOV is not gonna make your struggles any harder.
As for the "balance" its more like "lets handicap the PC playing experience enough to the point that its so bad that xbox players have a chance". At this point they should really just drop the crossplay cause both platforms are unhappy with eachother. PC players are tired of all the handicaps and Xbox are tired of getting killed by PC players, although theres already a solution for the Xbox players.
