Chum The Water!

  • You've just defeated the enemy ship, their last alive crew member has been brought upon your ship.
You push them towards the plank, they fall off and.......

    nothing.

Players should have a way to attract sharks to the area, even if it's just for a short time with a juicy bucket of meat.

They even show a swarm of sharks in the E3 trailer!

Players could pick up meat offcuts/fat that you get as a byproduct of cooking meat, which would be stored in a barrel next to the stove, burnt food could also be added to the barrel manually, adding a use to a fairly useless thing. the meaty, fatty contents of the barrel could be picked up in a bucket and thrown overboard or even on someone.
The more meat in the bucket, the more sharks.
Rough idea, I'm sure you guys could come up with better

It would have to be somewhat time-consuming to get a nice amount of chum though, as calling a swarm of sharks to defend your ladder could be a little OP in a battle. But could also make a nice counter to boarding and punish players for being knocked off the boat.

    What are your thoughts/improvements?

  • @innercosine2682 What and interesting and fun idea I like it, you got my vote.

  • Doesn't really add all that much gameplay-wise.

  • Sharks already have an increased spawn rate in certain scenarios including a player ship sinking.

  • @galactic-geek Neither does drinking grog and puking, just something cool.

Too my knowledge, a sinking ship does not attract more sharks.

In my experience, the only noticeable difference in the amount of sharks is when a megalodon is present.

  • so what you are saying is i can kill a shark cook its meat take the byproduct of the shark call in more sharks and rince and repeat? yeah i found a loophole

  • @jollyolsteamed It depends on how it is implemented. Killing a shark gives 1 sharkmeat. If it take more than 1 meat per shark attracted, there is no loop-hole.

  • @innercosine2682 Cool idea, but why stop? It would be cool if it increased spawnrates/attracted megadolons as well. But you would need a lot of buckets for that.

  • I like it. Be nice to keep the water around the boat Chummed as a Swimmer/Boarder deterrent.

Just put a Chum Bucket next to the frying pan. Instead of cooking the fish 🐟 I can toss it in there and use my bucket to scoop out bloody water and toss it around the boat!

Let it bring in like 4-6 sharkies!

As long as the amount of "summoned" sharks is fewer than the number to summon more sharks it will be a self terminating process and no problems will arise. Also could have a cooldown for summoning more sharks in the same area.

If you want to farm shark meat 🥩 go ahead. How is that any different than me slaughtering 20 Chickens 🐓 and pigs 🐖 and snakes 🐍 in the beginning of every session so I have PVP food?

can you summon animals on a whim anywhere you want how many times you want and end up with an endless source of meat in the middle of nowhere???

yeah no don't think so 🙄

    whats the difference you ask??

i have to take my rear end to all the different islands to farm them as opposed to having a free fast food delivery in the middle of the red sea if i wanted

in turn is pretty much as the same concept as buying supplies all the pvp food i want right away without really having to do anything can't believe why people see this as a good idea

the idea is a bad one

so eventually you wouldn't be able to summon any at all?

aslong as the ability to summon sharks is still there the issue is absolutely NOT self terminating itself (unless the required amount to make chum) is much higher than the gain from the sharks only then is it a self terminating process

also reading off of op's post where he mentioned "swarms" what number of sharks would you consider to be a swarm?

  • @likeamikelp said in Chum The Water!:

yes however going off the word "swarms" of sharks that number would have to be pretty high still think this is a very bad idea tho

i get the concept "YARR WALK THE PLANK MATEY" but this is a game where balance (pun intended) is an important staple its not trying to go off of movies and why would we need to summon sharks other than to just make someone walk the plank? its not needed at all

plus having someone walk the plank would require some sort of "capture prisoners" system of some kind or nobody will ever walk that plank unless for roleplay

and i strongly hate a capture prisoner system i don't want to be in cuffs i'll just server hop once again negating the need for this idea to be in the game

this idea just sounds like an anti boarding policy which is why i disagree with this idea being a good one

why does it sound like an anti boarder policy?

its 1: an alarm for everyone on your ship
2: get bitten by sharks as you try to board
3: guarding ladders is no longer an important job as you have sharks which make distinct sounds when chasing someone also that loud CHOMP noice they make when they bite someone

i generally do not like this idea at all purely because its not needed and its a waste of precious resources that could go into better content but thats just my opinion
