Personally I hate Twitch and Streaming but this content delivery stuff is a bit meh...

  • Never been a fan Streaming (it's not comparable to real sports whichever way you want to argue it). But why is it that I am not being notified of these promo events? My Twitch account (used solely for stupid promos like this) is already linked with my SoT/MS account.

I've missed out on yet more walled-off content, content that should have been sold for gold or doubloons in the game (or better yet, unlocked through actions), because I was not notifed of this Twitch drop stuff (despite linking accounts).

    Not cool.

Next up, partnering with cereal manufacturers! "COLLECT 'X' coupons to unlock a Kellogg's Flag!"

Hate to break it to you, but we've already been there.
Back in 2018 (?) there was a promo thing going on with Chips Ahoy. Great idea, because they were hard/impossible to get in most of Europe.

  • I tried it once. Apparently if I watched it I was gonna get some cool cannons or something.

I watched some doomaz dressed as a Pirate for like an hour and didn’t even get the damn cannons.

I dunno maybe I didn’t link this to that and blah blah blah.

Anyway it was brutal but I’m older so just the mere concept of watching someone else play a video game that you own irritates me.

  • At least it's a lot easier now to keep track of now whether you have unlocked a Drop or not - now that it shows your accounts that are linked on the drops page on this website, and those who have Twitch Drops enabled will have the tag on their stream. And it even has a progress bar on Twitch. While the extra step of "claiming" in your Twitch inventory might seem like a pain to many, it's helpful confirmation.

It's not for everyone, I realise that, but Twitch streams (especially for SoT) can be pretty entertaining and a good way to interact with other members of the community and pick up tips. The demographic of this community in particular is skewed a bit older than most on Twitch too, to a point where someone like me in my late 30s is often a "whipper snapper" in chats XD

  • I just pick whoever pops up with the least amount of views that is qualified for the drops

they get an extra view I get free stuff and maybe it'll be a good experience. seems fair enough to me

the events page is easy to check every day or so and their twitter keeps people updated. taking a glance every now and again for free stuff doesn't seem like too much to ask

  • @khaifx @wolfmanbush I was the same. Hated twitch and streaming in general.

Hated the idea of watching someone play a video game. Seemed stupid!

But then the twitch drops for the Ori shipset got announced a month or 2 ago... So at first I just had hitbotc or phuzzybond on in the background whilst I played...

I still watch phuzzybond from time to time and find him and Jackie entertaining and informative. You can learn some really handy tips and tricks!

  • I do enjoy watching Phuzzy’s stuff. He comes across as a genuinely nice person, and he’s not afraid to share when he makes mistakes. I don’t trust tips from people who only show me when their methods work. I can relate to him much more than some of the other streamers.

  • @ghostpaw phuzzy is great. Loses and wins with grace, and I like that he streams alongside his wife. Wholesome as haha

  • In game announcements would be great for Twitch drops.

I just find someone who isn't obnoxious and turn on their stream and let it run silently as I drive to work.

  • @khaifx So all of these cosmetics were already released in game through actions. If you missed that, this was a second chance.

And now I still have my doubloons now.

  • @pithyrumble Huh? these cosmetics were available free if you completed tall tales a few months ago. I didnt spend anything on them either.

Damn. I gave Twitch views for nothing.

Oh absolutely, STREAMING isn't the same as sports as that's just recording yourself playing a video game. However esports are comparable in many ways and are actually more popular than sports in this day and age, with much more money put into it and with gigantic prizepools than are very big considering esports has only been around for around 30 years, whereas sports have been around for hundreds.

  • I would honestly rather watch a Leage of Legends match than a Football game (US...I'll watch Soccer football lol)

    Back on topic lol:
    Ingame notifications would be ideal.
