Performance for SoT

  • So I've been able to run at a pretty consistent 90 FPS on Mythical Settings with 100% scaling at 2k on my 1080.

I figured I'd be able to get some more frames out with my new 3090, but it seems to have the same performance regardless. I can get 144 fps sitting still, but no matter what it's always fluctuating down to 90 fps (usually sitting more around that value).

I've been messing around with the settings and can't really ever get anything consistently above 100 fps. Is there a setting somewhere I am missing out? From what I read on some other threads, it seemed like there was similar feedback from other users. Does anyone have any settings I should try tweaking to improve performance or is this just some optimization issue with SoT?

I've been able to run other games on similar settings for up to 165 Hz and not even utilize near 100% of my GPU or CPU.

  • @charlie-f0xtrot I've got a 2080 and run the game at max settings and usually get around 100+ FPS, so the 3090 should definitely be able to handle it. The only thing I can think of is VSync. You'll want to turn that off. Apart from that I have no idea.

  • @mferr11 Yeah - I have vsync off. I get above 100 frames in most cases, but's never a steady number. Any time any sort of movement happens it drops down (it's just not very consistent for how many frames I'm getting). Even turning down the settings to cursed doesn't seem to hold anything above 100.

This is a tricky area for a lot of people..

I used to run a Single PC Setup with Triple Monitors. I have a 144Mhz 1ms 1080p Monitor and a 2080 GPU playing on all Mythical Settings and I would get around 120-140 FPS while I was Streaming.

I now run a 2 PC Setup, with the same monitor and same GPU, and I average anywhere from 150-200 FPS on all Mythical Settings with VSync OFF. I also use a Elgato 4K Pro Capture Card.

Now don't forget, FPS goes up and down all the time in this game depending where you are on the map or certain islands causes FPS Drops.

I have some friends who use the SAME equipment I do but for some reason their FPS is capped at 60 FPS..

  • @mrbadabing At some point I'll have to consider another PC. I know for streaming I'll have to turn settings down because Facerig and Streamlabs use up a descent chunk of my CPU, so that ends up being the bottleneck.

  • @charlie-f0xtrot

You will 100% Be fine if you Stream and Play SoT on a Single PC, since I have done it for over a year, just have to tweak your Bitrate and settings. I highly recommend 2 PC Setup's if you will continue. Install OBS or Streamlabs on your Streaming PC and use NVENC for Encoding. Use your gaming PC for literally just that. You will never have any drop frames on Streamlabs or OBS plus you will be able to Stream in 1080p 60fps

Make sure you get the Elgato 4K Pro Capture Card installed in the Streaming PC since that allows 144Mhz Passthrough, then you just have to clone your monitors. If you get the Regular Elgato HD60 Pro you will only be capped at 60 FPS (I made this mistake on Trial & Error)

  • i have the same issue my frames on sea of theives goes up and down on the 3090 its really strange

  • I really think that SoT is not really well optimized and that’s what causes a lot of issues.
