Respawn your ship at an outpost.

  • This one is a no brainer really and its a little QOL update for those instances where your ship has sunk, you salvaged the loot on your emergency rowboat and made it back to an outpost.

You could obviously get the mermaid back and leave your rowboat behind. But why not just stick your dagger in the table of your nearby shipbuilder?

Works like a vote and only when your ship is sunk.
The dock must be clear, if its not it wont work and will prompt you its obstructed.

If the conditions are met and there are no nearby ships your trusty boat will spawn on the dock.

There is only one potentially exploitable thing regarding this and is likely the only reason i imagine this idea could potentially not work.

I could potentially sit on the dock with my storage crate and sink my boat over and over having hundreds of cannon balls as a result.

If there was a way to stop this exploit then potentially this QOL would be feasible.

    Thoughts?

  • @daringclarky This would be exploitable via emissary flags being farmed by other crews and having a massive stack of level 1 flags being able to be used to swap with another crew doing the same thing then turn in at Reaper's. Hence, completing the emissary comms by cheesing the mechanic. This is a good suggestion but if the emissary system wasn't in place I'd say yes to it, but sadly it's entirely exploitable.

  • There are too many exploits with being able to respawn your ship exactly where you want it that make this idea unfeasible.

The storage crate one you mentioned, the one with the emissary flags mentioned above and I also think it makes outpost camping a bit more effective since you could now call in your ship when you see someone heading to the outpost you're hiding at - providing you with cannons, a form of travel and a spawn point.

  • @ThickishJester @D3ADST1CK
    Both great points raised.
I had some of the same concerns myself too.

Never thought of that emissary thing though!

And would be worse with a galleon crew. Imagine they separate and each camp an outpost, then call in their ship along with their reinforcements (via mermaid) to take out the unsuspecting crews approaching. They'd have 4 of the 7 outpost covered for a sneak attack - definitely a gamebreaking suggestion.

  • @daringclarky

Does anyone remember when respawning at outposts was the an actual thing back in the day??

Everytime a ship sank it would spawn at the nearest outpost every single time. I miss and hate those days lolol.

  • @xultanis-dragon That was a little before my time. I started in year 2 as i only had a playstation. I bought my xbox purely for SOT after it was confirmed it wasnt ever coming to sony.

However given the feedback and things put forward, im actually glad they havent implemented my idea. Haha, how funny things turned out 😂😂

@dlCHIEF58 That galleon thing you mentioned, wow. Yeah that would be really annoying. Burn this idea, i never even thought of that haha. Definitely game breaking. Thats also a pretty genius idea too.

Thanks for sharing everybody. Thats what makes these forums great because it can highlight stuff we all miss. 😀

Sailing back for my rowboat it is.
At least theres no chance of a ship spawning on me! 😂

Oh dude it was hell to have to deal with the same exact ship a minute after sinking it, but honestly I miss the chaos of it all. Its not secret I am a fan of the early days of this game when Forts had ships fighting and repeatedly sinking each other over and over.

Right now though, I sink a ship and I wait for it to come back only to be disappointed. Either the crews are quitting right after they sink or they spawn so far away that they think its a waste of time??

When thinking about it, I think early players did have 1 single advantage that newer players didn't. When we sank we always had an opportunity to get our loot back. Every single time. The outposts are spread out in a way that no matter where you sink you are close to the players who sank you. So you could go back and fight over the same loot for hours even if its not fort related.

Maybe that helped mitigate the feeling of loss we had for the loot?? The opportunity to try over and over?? I think the loss of loot would be less problematic if players felt as if they had a chance to get back their loot??

Again, it was HELL to have to deal with, but looking at it, maybe it actually worked in a way for players?? Don't know. I enjoy chaos and the lack of it is making me reminisce of the past.

I know when I sink I spawn on the opposite side of the map against the wind. Sounds like an exaggeration right, but I swear its not. I think spawning far away is more aggravating then me sinking really.

Oh man. What you described there does sound like hell hut also a lot of fun.

Fighting an endless ship battle over a Fort, being the crew to peel away loot after sinking for it over and over. Sounds rage inducing but also a really good time! Haha

Perhaps we could make a private server and bring back some of those early day fights and chaos. :)

  • Easily fixed exploits...you could make it so that spawning your ship at an outpost puts a 10 minute cooldown on scuttling the ship.
