Look at this character:
And yet, she has the body of a professional male wrestler who needs to go on a serious diet and manage his horrific steroid addiction. So she is unusable.
I don't have any problem with her race - I don't have any problem with her sex; the normal red flags that you could raise, accompanied by obscenity-laced tirades regarding a person's bigotry simply won't fly here - I want to play this girl... except that I can't, because she's a freaking GOON.
And this is the problem with the IPG. I can sort through this trash system - TRASH. SYSTEM. - for what is literally days and not come up with a face as fine as that, and yet here she is, and a single body slider that I am not allowed to touch has ruined her.
Why is this preferable to a traditional character creator? Why can't I just design my own pirate to be how I want him or her to be? Don't tell me it's "because Rare doesn't want pretty pirates." That's complete bull. A) pretty pirates are totally possible - I see them all the time. B) the game's marketing goes to great lengths to portray characters that are gorgeous - you don't see 300 pound toothless grannies in the ad material, do you? C) what business is it of anyone - Rare included - to dictate what I should want my character to look like, or how I want other players to see me, provided that such a character is possible within the design of the game?
You can carry on about how 'you never see your character,' and how that makes the creation process meaningless, except that fully HALF the rewards we're aiming for are clothing. Paper dollism, whether you like it or not; whether you partake not at all, is a huge incentive for playing the game. But, of course, I'm not playing much... because I'm jousting with the IPG, trying to get this GARBAGE mechanic to spit out a perfect roll of random slider positions. Joy.
