Any chance of making things dropped from the Kraken and such more visible? Half the time I can't find it after a kill, and in storms it's is basically impossible once the ship gets spinning.
See sea loot.
Oh I'm with you a hundred percent.
You've only got 5 minutes to find treasure before it sinks. This makes grabbing loot incredibly difficult for anyone but those with the most experience. I've played nearly 100 hours and have seen the Kraken maybe 6 times? That's only 6 chances to 'git gud' at the encounter.
Even then the loot really isn't that great. You only get 0-3 pieces of treasure per tentacle which just feels bad when most of it goes to the bottom of the sea and you get a measly seafarers chest or hateful bounty skull for your trouble.
I'd love if Tentacles dropped a piece of Kraken with 0-2 pieces of loot and that defeating it was more in line with the Megalodon, dropping something along the lines of 3-8 pieces of loot. Reward players for defeating it and reward particularly nimble players for defeating it quickly.

This right here. Best of both worlds, more loot for the more coordinated teams and a better incentive to take it down not just 180 and run.

You need to retrace your steps using your map zoomed in but agree it would be helpful if it was more shiny, I seem to spend ages in the crows nest but still don't see it until I jump in.. if ever.
The loot gets dropped as a tentacle is defeated. You get 1 loot and 1 kraken meat per tentacle (I think - I could be wrong here).
The problem lies in the fact that the loot drops during the fight, so if it's a prolonged engagement, it may sink before you're done. Furthermore, if you're not anchored, your ship will keep moving either due to your sails or from getting hit, further making it difficult to track loot. On top of all of that, the ink covers a large swath of water too meaning the loot may not be easy to see.
If you're with a crew, designate a looter - someone who can quickly grab the loot mid-fight and get it back on board quickly. If you're solo, simply finish the fight as quickly as possible.
If you still have trouble finding loot after the fight, load yourself into a cannon and fire it straight up for the ultimate view of the area - you'll likely see something on the way back down.
