Temporarily lose your cosmetics with a sink

    Like many people here, I wish cosmetics did just a little more. At the same time, I wish there was more incentive to keep your ship afloat; so many people scuttle at the drop of a dime.

    What if, every time your ship sunk, you lost access to your current cosmetic set for the next 24-48 hours? Essentially, that set went down with the ship. This would force players to throw up new sets until their preferred set reset. Get sunk enough, and even the most OG player is back to white sails.

    My hunch is that this would make cosmetics more dear, scuttling more deliberate, and increase the ante of sinking. Thoughts?

    My guess would be that there will be more naked pirates around.

    When I get sunk and want to take revenge, I'm not wasting time to adjust my wardrobe.

    Also wondering how many crews would go after crews with (ship) cosmetics paid for with ancient coins ...

    I've already worked hard for what I have because I only get a few hours each night to play. Just losing all of the supplies you've gathered is enough of a punishment I think. Plus if I get sunk I'm going to look hella good doing it 😆

    As a long-time player, I find myself increasingly often setting sail without dressing my ship. Not because I want to look like a newbie, especially. I just cannot be bothered. If this were a thing, I don't think I would bother getting dressed again.

    Could another member of the crew put up the same cosmetics if (s)he owns it ?

    After a sink, you will not always end up at an outpost, have to make a detour to an outpost in those cases ?

    What if the crew that was there when it got sunk is replaced one-by-one ? Will Rare be flooded with support tickets because crews cannot change the ship sails anymore as the members of the current crew probably doesn't know which cosmetics were used ?

    I think it also is detrimental for the crew that sunk the ship, if the crew that sank have the same sails they can be recognized, "Oh , it's them again, prepare for whatever tactic they employed the x times before".

    Do you really think that people who choose to scuttle would scuttle less if it means they have to sail with default skin or a less favourite one ?

    No. Too tedious; adds no new element of fun to the Sea and actively punishes those who have already earned their cosmetics by not letting them use them.

    The main point is to give more meaning yes?
    No, the mein point is to feel superior.
    Just bad habits.
