Extreme, but not unheard of in gaming where such things are viable. Sadly, people exist that are happy to exploit people and systems if presented the opportunity.

The best I can think of is adding gambling to the game, which has a whole other host of problems, but there are gambling games that is would be impossible to throw or anything like that leaving it to pure RNG any time a player plays with another and thus no conduit for real exploitation from the outside. But then you contend with the potential issues of simulated gambling in a game that relies on a global market and there are countries where that is just a no go.

So, while gold being able to transfer from one player to another is not impossible to accomplish in a means that avoids exploitation, they tend to come with their own concerns and are likely the primary reason we don't have a platform for this in game already.

I do think there are some cosmetic related options that could be used as gold sinks in the game and have posed some myself, as I agree I would love to see more uses for gold, but we gotta get as creative as possible to ensure those methods don't cause new issues or balancing problems against the spirit of the game.

its not extreme at all. how do you think they can afford to sell 1 million gold for $5usd in other games? you sure wouldnt be willing to spend an hour or more to farm a million gold and sell it for $5, so why are they?

I feel there should be some tavern games you can play which would make for the giving of your good between friends a fun experience. Or if your getting raided you can pay the enemy to look a blind eye maybe? Every game has its exploits so to hell with it tbh. It just ruins the game if you pay to get gold so let people ruin the experience for themselves

To be honest, I don't think this is a good idea because it kinda destroys the way the game (and every other game aswell) works. Let me explain this with a little example:

You are new to SOT and bought it because a friend of you played it for ages. You think "Oh, what amazing cosmetics you have! I want them too!" And he is like "Allright, I'm gonna give you some money to buy them" because he already has all of the cosmetics and more than enough gold and doubloons left. Then you got the cosmetics but they would all be pretty much worthless for you because later you wouldn't be able to differ between what your work was and what other people got for you.

Why play the game if you don't have to do anything to get the things you want? Any "status symbol" like the expensive ship sets in the black market become pretty much worthless aswell. Only time limited stuff and things you can buy after reaching a special commendation would keep their value. Additionally people would exploit this mechanic the way many here described to gain real-life money.

I hope you understand my point of view in this.
