Why did you add a faction into the game based on being toxic? Coming across another ship and them stealing from you is one thing but getting tracked down and hunted is the most annoying thing especially because it happens every... single... time I leave the port for longer than 20 minutes. Furthermore, the sloop should not be the slowest ship in the game as it has the least amount of players and is usually outnumbered. I am often faced with being out raced or u-turning to avoid for hours until two people board and kill me and my friend before spawning while the other two control their ship and fire upon my ship.
Reaper's ruined game
Then perhaps don't fly the Emissary flag. The Emissary system is designed as a risk/reward system - that is why it is something you need to opt into. If you don't fly an Emissary flag (or the Reapers Mark) it is not possible for other crews to track you beyond coming across you just as it has always been.
Reaping did absolutely nothing bad for the game.
Terier, while the Sloop is the slowest ship in the game, it is the fastest against the wind and the most agile. But, I agree with the addition of the Brig, that has closed the gap in performance. I find more Reapers run the Brig even with 2 players due to the fear they cause in their speed and the potential of having 3 players against 2.
I will tell you I only run the Reaper to level it up to 75. I have no intention of pursuing other Emissary players. However, running the Reaper's emissary flag is a beacon to the entire server and either makes everyone leave or makes everyone pounce. Happy sails and keep your eyes on the map. If you see them and don't want to deal with them, go sell your treasures and restart.
@terier Wether or not you think it has ruined the play experience, this is a PIRATE game. sea of THIEVES
If you can't beat the opponent just run. If you are getting catched (especially on a sloop), you need to sail better. If you can't sail better, don't run emissary. If you prefer to only PvE run another game.
Seriously, you pleople need to stop crying just because you can't cope with some situations. Reapers is by far one of the best things implemented into Sea of Thieves. It made the game much more dynamic in regards to PvEvP, just as it is intended!
Asking for "safety" and "insurence" so you can spam only PvE is wrong in so many ways. Right now every play session is different than the one from yesterday. This is a precious jewel we must cherish!! Giving people "safety" in SoT will only ruin the game, as it will divide people it into PvP and PvE groups and will create metas for each of them, which will eventually bore people in both groups. I think many people don't realize this.

What you have described there isn't being toxic, it's part of the game. Unless a Reaper is Rank 5 they can't see other ships (who are running emissary flags) so you can only really be 'Tracked down' by Rank 5 Reapers. From my experience these are very rare, not every time I leave port for longer than 20 minutes. I can very often sail for a number of hours and not see another ship, let alone a reaper!
Furthermore, the sloop should not be the slowest ship in the game as it has the least amount of players and is usually outnumbered. I am often faced with being out raced or u-turning to avoid for hours until two people board and kill me and my friend before spawning while the other two control their ship and fire upon my ship.
The sloop is the slowest ship with wind, but it is also the most manoverable, it's sink rate is much slower than other ships, it is the fastest ship against wind. Use this to your advantage.
Look out for boarders, put items on-top of your capstan to make it harder for boarders to anchor you. 9 times out of 10, a boarder's first intention is to anchor you, this gives you a split second to react and defend your ship. If you see another ship on the horizon who you feel may be looking for a fight, prepare yourself. Stock your character up with Food/Wood/Cannonballs/Blunder Bombs. I tend to always switch to my blunderbus for PvP encounters on my ship because of the knockback effect.
Don't be afraid of losing a fight, every single fight I've lost I've learnt something from it.
Remember that this is PvPvE game, so Reapers or not, there is going to be some PvP because that's how some people want to play the game!

Beeing a REaper and hunting ships to steal loot and/ or get their emissary flag if they have one is not toxic.
The Situation hasn't chaged that much - PvE was allways contested more or less.
The Reaper Faction and the emissary flags are just another mechanic to have loot - the outcome of every PvE to be contested.
That is the nature of this game.
Do PvE, but know it is allways contested. Get Loot, but know it isnt yours until you have turned it in.
It is contested by design!the Sloop is the fastest Ship against the wind. It wont safe you every time, some Brigs can catch up because of the waves and flow sometimes and the shroud is a natural boarder to flee against the wind, but you gain some time, you maybe can sell something when you drive by an outpost or more.
Maybe this helps you a little the next time.
Another tip, dont let anybody board you if possible!
Equip a blunder, protect your ladders. If you are chasedtry to board by yourself and drop their anchor!
Know they and you can also board via Harpoon if waves are high enough you can manage to grap the harpoon from the water and end up on the ship at the harpoon.
I dont like it it's possible, but it happens rarely as it needs high waves to be able to do that. Also people have found out to become invincible on the ladder if they spam the buttons to grab/release - idk if that till works, i dont use exploits per principle.
So dont shoot them too early as you else need to reload and they board and sent you to davy jones - eh the ferryman of course :D@weedstar-deluxe
the reaper bones is designed for streamers for server hopping and streaming content.
It is not, the amount of Streamer hate on this forum is ridiculous. It doesn't even work well with hopping, because it incentives you to stay on the server long enough to actually build Grade 5 and get the Tracking reward. I see plenty of non-streamers use it, including streamers who use the other faction's emissary.
You got a hate bias against streamers and it shows.
@nabberwar if you raise your reapers on the outpost and you find another reapers on grade 4 with some loot ,if you sink him you get instant rank 5 ..
@weedstar-deluxe

I honestly don't experience this when I run Reapers. very rarely am I getting targeted right away from a ship. Even if they just joined the server, how are they even supposed to properly mount an attack with little to no supplies. Meanwhile, a ship that has been on the server for a length of time will have a hefty sum of game changing tools, including Wraith-balls, Curses, chainshot, blunderbombs, and firebombs.
This game encourages people to stay in one place and rewards those that do. While certainly some streamers hop, but usually its because they want to do the activities that they enjoy or the stream enjoys. Pace at one point would join a server and defend Reaper's hideout, they would grab supply crates and food crates while also ditching there ship. Now was those items added for the benefit of streamers? No, just because they can find a use for them doesn't mean its designed for them. Same can be said for Reapers, just because they can make use of them doesn't mean they are designed for them.
i dont get the streaming generation its so low entertainment^^
To each their own, but it honestly isn't that far fetched. Sports has always been a spectators event, even included non-competition. I live in Wisconsin, people will go to practice sessions for the Packers to watch. Now you might be as interested in sports as much as I am, next to none. However, people will always watch stuff they are interested even when that have the opportunity to play it themselves. Now, instead of sports holding this role, now it is transitioning into gaming.

... or it's designed to stimulate PvP. If you choose to server hop, then that is your choice.
I like to hunt Reapers because they reveal themself on the map, unfortunately they dont have much most of the time.
So i bring their flag back to Reapers Hideout without beeing one :-)
I always feel like a dumb pirate if i reveal myself on the map.People who hop servers for whatever reason are lame dont having a pirate adventure, but cheese the unpredictability of their adventures so they arent anymore adventures.
When you log in, check the map table for reapers. If you see one, change servers. Chances are you'll never have to deal with a Grade V reaper. Alternatively, if you see a reaper on the map, go check them out and see if they're a threat. At that point you've invested nothing and have nothing to lose, so why not try to take them out? If they prove to be a problem for you, switch servers. If not, then you're free to do as you please.
Just offering some options. :)
Toxic is wrong word used.
Only toxic if they do it relentlessly and target only you.
But that is near impossible once you dont have a flag up to be revealed, they aren't grade 5 reapers, and have option to switch servers. For a player who help found this game, you should already know best ways to avoid all these things. Experience.
PvP =/= Toxicity. Being toxic is calling people slurs, or spawn camping for the sake of it. It's a pirate game where piracy is not only expected, but encouraged. Rare built this game around giving players the option to attack each other and steal treasure. They didn't build it around the idea of players just minding their own business and grinding quests, even though that's also an option.
Reaper's is one of the best things to happen in the game along with all of the other emissaries. Saying that they are toxic in a game like this is just crazy. I think it would do people some good to watch a few videos so that they would know what SOT is all about before just diving in blindly. If people are getting mouthy, racist, sexist etc then yes of course that is toxic. However if your complaint is that you are getting hunted down, spawn camped and sunk, well that's just part of the game. It's a pirate game, get use to it.

I actually find it quite exciting sometimes...
especially because it happens every... single... time I leave the port for longer than 20 minutes.
Don't lie to yourself, or us. You know this to be a falsehood.
Furthermore, the sloop should not be the slowest ship in the game as it has the least amount of players and is usually outnumbered.
Every ship in the game has its own speed advantages, as well as other advantages - the sloop is no exception.
I am often faced with being out raced or u-turning to avoid for hours until two people board and kill me and my friend before spawning while the other two control their ship and fire upon my ship.
First, you don't need to U-turn; doing that puts you right back towards those that are chasing you - so, it's no wonder you're boarded and killed. You should have simply turned directly left or right; once you see the larger ship turn to chase, do it again. And again. With how much more work they have to put in to both turn, and work sails, you'll quickly lose them due to the effort not matching the results.
Secondly, why are you letting them chase you for hours? Do a drive-by at an outpost, turn in some of your loot, then rinse and repeat until there's nothing left for them to steal. Alternatively, you could just switch servers - that's ALWAYS an option.
@gleaminx said:

Um... It could also make some leave, and the rest pounce; or it might not do anything - they might just ignore you. Put ALL options on the table, my friend.

A friend and I tried this the other day; our lvl. 3 RB sloop took on a lvl. 4 RB brig - sadly we lost, and my friend vowed never to play a RB again because he broke his previous vow of never attacking 1st, but hey... That's the pirate's life.

They may not have much often, but if you're willing to wait...
Bringing back a flag without being a reaper is so satisfying because it proves that you don't have to be a Reaper to, well, be a Reaper.
I wouldn't say dumb, but definitely not smart.
@rcadden said in Reaper's ruined game:
Also more and more I only see PVE Reapers. You watch them on the map and you can see that they're running Forts or Flameheart, they go to Reaper's Hideout, sell, and then dip.
It's been quite a while since I've seen an actual legit Reaper, sadly.
This is precisely why my friend and I attempted our assault on the brig that I mentioned earlier - we watched as they finished a fort, and knowing they were a Reaper with lots of loot, and that they would turn it in at the Hideout, we sailed for an intercept course. Of course, we didn't even know it was a brig until we physically saw it (well, we guessed prior due to its speed across the map table).

...anybody doing it would get slaughtered, but hey, it'd certainly leave a lasting impression!
@terier Sloop does need to be faster, you aren't wrong on that as far as I'm concerned. Emissary is an opt in system so it is hard to complain when a reaper shows up looking for gold, but I think it's easier for most people to just say "get gud" or "stop complaining" than to actually engage in a dialogue. Sloops are chased because people know they can track them down easy if they are persistent enough. As far as everyone saying "you aren't sailing properly", I say that if you can lose a brig in a sloop, THE BRIG wasn't sailing properly...
I have to disagree. The sloop is super agile and such a pain to track down if it has any kind of head start into the wind. Harpoon things, hide behind islands and rocks, go into narrow gaps, and sail into the wind. You will get away or at least make the chase annoying enough to where the might call it off.
I'm refering to everybody who has a problem being catched or killed, or generally owned just because they have 2 hours into the game, and can't deal with chasing or combat mechanics... Then drop on the forums and start making "please fix, coz I'm getting my behinds handed to me" threads.
You're much more active than me on this forum, you most definitely know better than myself what I'm talking about.
please don't play this game. Sea Of Thieves is a PvPvE game (PVP). Adding a PVP faction to the game isn't "toxic", it adds a higher risk factor to sailing with large hauls of loot and with risk comes reward. You sound like the type who always camps their ladder with a blunderbuss then gets salty when you die to a pistol user. If you don't like PVP, take your ill mindset and play Minecraft or some other PvE game.
Id argue unironically that reapers are at a disadvantage.
The entire point of emmisaries was for the emissary groups to work together against the reapers. Reapers are marked on the map at all times. If you see a reaper consider hunting them. I run reaper every day. I don't run any other emissary. You know how easy it would be to sink us with a row boat . Or just using multiples ships to attack us.I
It's not toxic to run a reaper. Or is it toxic to play a game as intended wether you wanna be a friendly pirate which I can be at times if it's beneficial. But if I wanna be a reaper and it's a legit thing in the game. And one could argue the REAPER FLAG. Even has been in the game for over a 1.5 years as a threat to the server. Idk what to tell you maybe this game isn't for you.
@ajm123 I'm not disagreeing with your entire post, but the 1 point I will disagree on is your comment about every other emmisary versus the Reapers, because that's not the case at all. There is nothing stopping any emmisary from attacking another emmisary. There's also nothing stopping an emmisary from allying themselves with another emmisary. Heck, there's technically nothing stopping an emmisary crew from allying with the Reaper to ensure that the Reaper doesn't come after them. There's so many options available that to say it's everybody versus the Reaper is kind of short-sighted, IMO.
