Mermaid Rework

  • @jc152003 sagte in Mermaid Rework:

@Bugaboo-Bill You obviously barely play this game with the comments you are making. There have been multiple hide emotes such as cannonball hide, pillar hide, barrel hide, wall hide, lazy hide, and deck hide. This game is meant for people to sneak and steal on the seas.

    i play regularly since Alpha.

and you want to tell me the hide behind a barell or the mast is good for tucking?

    ok :)

edit: the thread is about stealth aproahces and the mermaid and tucking, i can't see any other emotes than lying flat on the ground or cower into a corner are good for this.

  • @jc152003

This game is meant for people to sneak and steal on the seas.

i doubt that - the game is meant to have a fun comical pirate adventure and aproach in all aspects of the game in a balanced way.

if someone limits himself in the way he aproaches the game then this is his way to do so, but please people who do not go into all aspects of the game dont try to change the game to their needs, bevause they do solely PvX or want to use the seabox like they want.
they can do so, i do so by myself sometimes, but i dont ask for gamechangers or mechanics that please my personal aproach then.

  • @Bugaboo-Bill I am just saying that the devs clearly want sneaking and tucking in this game because they added a lot of hide emotes. And the counters to tucking shouldn’t just be a rowboat. Pirates should actively check their ships for tuckers instead of relying on a mermaid to give the tuckers position away. When boarding someone’s boat, a mermaid shouldn’t just spawn next to your opponents ship when you are trying to be sneaky.

No, they're not. The emotes you just mentioned are purchasable for real money, and are not intended to be used to enhance your ability to stow away on board an enemy ship; if they were, that would make those emotes pay-to-win. As it stands, they're social tools meant for you to have fun with. Of course, you can try to use them to tuck on an enemy ship, but you're not going to have much luck doing so. You're better off hiding in one of the cannons.

As others have said, you have the option of being sneaky and stealthy in your quest to steal treasure from other players, but the game isn't built around stealth mechanics. We're pirates, not ninja. We don't spend our days sneaking around, we sail up cannons blazing.

  • @Blam320 the emote that is the most useful is obviously the hide emote which was FREE which shoes it’s not pay to win.

Ah but there's a difference, and you said it yourself: it was a free emote. You can't acquire the others unless you buy them, or get lucky and find enough Ancient Skeletons to get the Ancient Coins needed.

Either way, you're still misunderstanding the point of the emotes: they were never designed to give you an edge with stealth play, they were designed to be just as the name suggests: a fun emote you can use to mess around with your friends.

So you literally say they added p2w for buyable tucking emotes?

Pirates should actively check their ships for tuckers instead of relying on a mermaid to give the tuckers position away. When boarding someone’s boat, a mermaid shouldn’t just spawn next to your opponents ship when you are trying to be sneaky.

the DEvs and many others seem not to share this.
I go further and say tucking in the environment or loot is not good sports, but exploit using and literally "cheating".

It was never meant to do so, there once was a twitter post by Joe Neate iirc and he said the way people tuck on others ships weren't intended.
And all what it does when Streamers do so is not playfull at all, but making jokes on the cost of others.
Supposedly grown up man - i think they are not - bullying noob kids and stream it on the internet to brag around and push their ego - sorry i'm 43yo and i havent seen any more pitiful people than some of these streamer for example doing so and made it popular.

and now we have people like you, who think the game is an FPS PVP game only about stealth and tucking on other ships to own them.
    sorry i disagree

reminds me of all this pitiful guy.

  • The other emotes that you need to buy aren’t that useful. The hide emote was most definitely not to have fun with, it is clearly an emote meant to hide on someone’s boat to make sneaky plays.

yeah but not lay down in corners to get glitched into the envorinment to become invisible and not have a mermaid around.
Also i care about the lore!

  • @Bugaboo-Bill I never said this game was solely for PvP and tucking. I’m saying that it is just part of the game. When tucking you are not invisible. It is very easy to find a tucker. All you have to do is swing your sword all around your ship.

  • @jc152003 if you read above i do so very often, no need to tell me how to play, i'm year one legen, founder and play this game succesfully with a crew for over 2 years.

you can tuck and lay down as much as you want, but it shouldnt be possible to become invisible when you glitch into loot or the envorinment.
It's exploiting and literally cheating, no?

I hope they will fix things like that.

By the way, my big belly pirate cant do that, i couldnt hide on the sloops roof for example and were invisible with this big character.
Thinner characters could or still can do, like at the cannons or in loot.
I also cannot hide in loot, to many muscles and a too broad shoulders.

So for someone who likes PVP i want to keep it balanced please!

  • I don’t think it’s cheating when there is a simple way to prevent it. Pirates are supposed to be sneaky.

While it's true that bigger pirates can't hide as easily, they have the tremendous, and rather ironic, advantage of being harder to hit.

  • @galactic-geek c'mon please because my hitbox is covered mby more pixels around it?
this is not comparable at all, a whole playstyle is taken away from me, i want to tuck only and all day on other peoples ship in corners and places where i get invisible.
All do so - watch streams, all do so - i know it - the most competetive and successfull players who everyday save Rare from going bankrupt and the game to get shut down are doing so all day.

XD sorry i needed to do that XD

  • @galactic-geek

i took me hours to create the character i had in alpha on release date!
This is very much important to me - i'm well known within the people i play with as this big guy you know.

    also it's p2w then :P

  • @little-squash said in Mermaid Rework:

    @limitedkraken
    Rare already talked about it:

Well of course they have thought about it. They have given every mechanic in the game thought.

And they have also said that SoT is a work in progress. They have changed most things before. Changing the mermaid mechanic is a vallid request.
