Change Boat when adding friends/removing friends.

  • I know this might be an odd thing for Console. But for PC, this is what it looks like.

Pick boat size. Let the internet match me. (Great!)
Pick boat size. I want to choose my friends. If I want to add friends I need to now ditch all my efforts and load a whole new boat. If a friend leaves, ditto. Notice how when I am looking to play with my OWN friends it becomes counter productive to have to go back to add/remove!

    Change Boat Story:
You select a sloop and invite one friend to a closed game. Another friend logs onto discord. (Xbox live beta is BETA and discord works so much better. In closed games I suspect many people do this instead of using the BETA app xbox live.) They want to join up on this mighty adventure, but my game is full though. I press ESC and in My Crew I have an option to change ships. This keeps my cargo, my gear, my boat skins, and my pets, and re-instances me, along with my crew. So now three of us are all joining a game and none of us feel like we had to start all over.

A friend wishes to leave? No problem! Lets do it again, but this time I select a new boat size, a Sloop, and me and the remaining crew member are now in a smaller boat, ready to do our thing.

    Complications:
All chests are stacked in the first level below the main deck.
You spawn like you would when you get a new ship after your's is destroyed.
The ship's gear is placed in the same types of barrels, filling up the first and going from there. If you have 3 ammo barrels maxed out, then you only keep two barrels (sloop).
    You keep your rowboat, attached.
The quests are re-instanced, like you are getting a new quest. So you, and your new player gets reintroduced to them. The quest on the board is the same, and at the same level.
You keep your emissary flag, maybe not level? I think as long as I dont have to go reenlist I would be happy.

Yall are already making it hard to play with friends by changing the setting of console players to not play as easily with PC... so the whole CROSS-PLATFORM is more useless a feature each time I see it. Please do not keep making it hard to play with my friends, as they come in and out of joining.

    Warmly,
I really want to be a pirate with my friends!

P.S. The only good/bad I can see from this is you could re-instance when you want to change servers because this one has a bunch of reapers. So people changing servers frequently may be an issue.

  • PS. - since this last update, make the Instrument select button be a long press to select shanty please. That way I can assign it a key.

  • Why are you using the Xbox app beta when you could just use the Xbox app? It's newer, better, and out of beta... 🙄

  • @galactic-geek LOL, you think the xbox windows app is out of beta. hehe Good joke.

It's terrible as far as apps go, I admit, but yes - it is no longer in beta. The app has been out and available for use for YEARS. Take it from this Xbox Live Community Ambassador. 😉

  • I’m fine with changing boat size if the actual one sink with the supplies and then the new one spawn somewhere else with a server merge. (No loots transfer)

Otherwise to easy to exploit for the server alliance/takeover.

  • It's a nice idea. But the Servers can only handle 20 players at one time. This is why you will never see 6 Galleons on the same server. The cap is 20 player slots and/or 6 ships.

Allowing players to change ship sizes would break the system, as you could conceivable end up with 24 player slots on a server.

I don't know if this is a technical issue, or something that Rare can change? I'm just explaining why the option that you want is not currently possible.

    Good points

Why does changing a ship size break a server? When you get re-instanced you either get sent to a server that can handle your crew or a new instance is created where you are the first people to join.

  • A nice way to escape from pursuers when you're on the last leg of an Athena.

Or when you just sunk a another ship: they won't have the chance of revenge you might even get lucky and get the loot that floats up on the other instance instead of harpooning it first.

  • Being able to change ship size at Outposts and at the shipwright could be useful. If done in a balanced way.

I suppose if you had an "automatic" server merge when you changed ship size then the game could move you (and your crew) to a new server where there was enough space. Should that be necessary.

  • This is the same as logging out, making a new ship, inviting your friends, and having to log back in, and having to re setup a ship... All I ask is to play with my friends in an expandable way. They could strip all the loot and keep only cargo when you respawn. I would be ok with that.
