Getting Frustraited with Random Events

  • This has been an incredibly annoying problem for my short time playing sea of thieves. Every time I do large scale content like the newly added ghost fleet, we end up attrackting attention of other players. This is fine, I don't mind entering a thrilling chase for the gold.
My issue is that all these chases are ended by "Random Events" on the seas, whoever gets hit by one first loses as they end up getting tied up in the "Random Event" and the other ship is free to fire on them with no problems whatsoever. Whats worse is that this system favours the chasers as there will always be more chasers than chased, making doing the actual "Content" infuriateing because it will just be striped away from you because of the F**KING KRAKEN. There will always be more people chasing the treasue than the one ship being chased. If a chaser gets hit by a random event then that does not help the chased, there will always be another ship chasing them. If the chased gets hit, the chaser gets loads of loot from just getting lucky. Sure they might have to fight someone else for it, but they did little to earn it in the first place apart from "follow the leader". My suggestion is that for each piece of expensive loot abourd (anything that can be worth 1000 gold or more) each time that ship triggers a random event, it has a 5% chance that instead it just dosn't happen. This can transfer to every ship within a resonable distance meaning chases between crews can be based on skill ranther than randomness. If a ship has 20 pieces of loot or more abourd then they will not get haulted by the kraken or hit with a cursed cannon ball by a ghost ship, or get rammed by a megaladon randomly.

  • Idk about you...But I was chasing a Sloop on a Brig and they got Kraken/Meg....sooo yeah sure does Favor the chaser :/

  • @rodroy01 ....... something worth 1,000 is expensive loot??

  • The only random event that actually makes a difference in pvp chase is the kraken. I agree it can feel severely unfair but in the long term you'll appreciate the extra unpredictability of every adventure. As for the kraken itself, there are ways to shorten the time to escape from the ink, but if an experienced crew is chasing you it's not going to help. They will just launch themselves from cannons to board you and it's over. The only think useful to remind is that kraken needs a lot of space to spawn. If you plan your route to stay close to rocks and islands chances are someone else will get krakened before you.

  • @diabeuzpiekla

False, Kraken depends on ship size but the worst thing to spawn is an anchor ball / rigging ball skeleton galleon. Rigging is honestly worst since the constant attacks keep the sails up. The anchor ball will raise the anchor if its down, so you just hope that when it done its pass it hits you to where your anchor is up lol.

  • @xultanis-dragon what exactly "false" did i say? Skeleton ships even with best cursed balls are much, much less of a threat than the kraken. You can just shoot cannons at the skeleton ship's deck hitting skeletons on the cannons and prevent them from damaging you at all. When kraken spawns on you there is no way to avoid being stopped.

  • As a solo sloop I've been saved many times by a Kracken hitting me and the gally chasing me.

I turn into the wind and nearest exit as I watch the tenticals whip them around the opposite direction.

They can be an advantage sometimes.

Only thing that bothers me is the distance a skeleton ship will chase. 🤬😤

  • @dominusocto7 Im pretty new, have only been playing 5 days, 1000 gold seemed like a good tipping point for loot from what i have seen, but it could be changed to whatever seemed appropreate, same with the 5% could be more or less. :)

@DiabeuZPiekla Your right, a good chasing crew could potentially board and wreak havok, but you can defend against that by guarding ladders or using blast throwables if they get abourd. If you get krakened or ancored by a skelly ship, there is no defence. The kraken just happens and you can't sink the skelly ship fast enought before it hits you. I don't know if there is a defence against the megaladon attack, heven't had much experiences with them. :/

@Mouse-N-Keybord That is a cool trick, i will try it next time im on a sloop, but it again just suggests the chase is won through a random event. Your in a sloop, you can win the chase if either you or your opponent randomly gets hit by a kraken.

Thanks for all the replys :)

What bothers me most is that in those 5 days this has happened 3 times leading to the entire crew getting very angry at the game just craping all over our efforts. First one we were doing an athena voyage, got into a chase with another team and got hit by the kraken with all our loot still abord. Second time we were on a merchant envoy run, got into a chase then got hit by a ghost ship which instantly anchor balled us, the other team caught us we lost everything again. Third time we were doing flameheart (or whatever his name is). near the end we sank him and another crew came in to clean us up, thats fine, we ran and started doing drive by selling of outposts attracting a brigatine that was just outpost camping. after about another hour of this (so 3 hours sunk in this excursion so far) we get hit by the kraken, the brig parked just outside the ink and pelted us witch cannonballs and chainshot as our lower deck was cut off by a kraken tenticle... 3 hours and we only managed to sell 9 chests. This is my first experiences with the game and it's putting everyone i play with in a very bad mood.

Im very familiar with this... It should be karma against the aggressor not the one fleeing. It does feel like youve been kicked in the plumbs, youre down, while youre down there matey, can i slap you across the face with a half eaten ruby splashtail...

  • @burnbacon The other day my sloop was being chased by a brig for a half hour. Had just passed Daggers when a skelly gally popped up on us. That was. . . frustrating. Got away, and was even able to turn the gally on the brig, but still.
