Players' ships convoys

  • So, for now the maximum number of players that can play together is 4. I've recently got my friends into SoT and now there's like 7 of us and we would all like to go for voyages together. I think making an option to make a ship convoy, for example one medium and one big would be a cool idea. If someone posted this idea earlier, sorry I didn't find it.

  • I promote that, but people will cry unfair advantages etc...

    I dont care.
1v 4 is already a disadvantage, no Problem if it's 2 ships premade alliance.
One day they remain passive and do their thing the other day you get bested.
Nothing changes because of a 2 ship premade alliance.

  • It's a bit difficult, but you could attempt to convince another crew to give up their ship (with a bit of incentive, of course) by having them invite your friend(s) and then leaving.

Alternatively, you can schedule different friends for different days and rotate as you go.

Monday - you, Bill, Ted, and Thelma
Tuesday - you, Ted, Thelma, and Louise
Wednesday - you, Bill, Thelma, and Louise
Thursday - you, Bill, Ted, and Louise
Friday - Bill, Ted, Thelma, and Louise

  • @bugaboo-bill I would love if this was implemented and I don't have more than 2 friends who play, as you said, we already have 1v4s and the game is about the exciting stuff that happens so imagine you being able to say you managed to defeat an 8 man fleet. it would be amazing

i agree no matter if its 4v1 or 8v1 or 8v4 or wahtever.
And i think it wont be common to have a 2 ship premade alliance. Maybe only allow 1 Galleone to make it not too overpowered - thinking of FotD.

And yes it can be a real fun callenge to go versus an Alliance and be successfull.

Well we sometimes try to end up on the same server and are lucky, so its possible, but needs some time to try and error until you have 2 poeple on the same server to have a premade alliance.
Its also cool to setup some private battles :)

So out of 6 ships you want to have two, you want to have the ability to be able to coordinate with two ships in battle and cut off the escape routes.

People are already complaining that they get hunted down by a single ship, which you can out sail and now you want the ability to corner them with multiple?

There is a balance to consider... the idea is that alliances are not extensions of your crew, that betrayal can happen and all that. If you are friends... you have a trust bond that will not be shaken or unstable.

I am against the idea of having to face 7 friends on two ships... while others are alone and on a single ship. A sloop can out sail a single ship, but if one can pursue while the other flanks... where will the sloop go? It is to strong and not balanced.

  • @bugaboo-bill one ship versus two.. is a different type of advantage. You can out sail a single ship, doubling it up means they can cover both sides of an island you are using, flank you... coordinate and catch you, where are you supposed to go?

Additionally 4 pirates or 8 is a different advantage. If I want to have a fight with 4 and struggle how will a fight against double the numbers go?

Is your logic there is a different advantage so let's throw all sense of balance out of the window. We have kegs that are able to blow up a single ship, let's just make one that destroys the world, everyone no matter where you are will sink and die, all islands will sink and be destroyed. They are all explosions, who cares that it is at a totally different magnitude... sounds like fun, let the world burn and the pirates cry!

  • @cotu42
I think we must be talking about specific 'friends' alliance servers here where everyone's at it.. I completely agree it would not be much fun for the solo slooper going about his day..

  • @wagstr I am against the alliance servers people set up, but how people use the systems to achieve something and actively providing it as a feature are very different things. Funny thing is the people that complain about exploits in combat dont mind exploits to make their crews larger... while it is a huge combat advantage.

Personally I wish that Rare would try and counter alliance servers, the people using the invite system or matchmaking system to achieve something that isn't supported.

  • Pace has brought it up a couple times, but it would fantastic if we could get alliance battle. You're alliance vs ours, try to sink em and zone them off the edges of the map. Would be a fantastic event.

  • @tempzeus yes... if it is your alliance versus mine. An arena event where multiple ships face each other in equal numbers. Sounds fun.

Adventure mode does not have such restrictions, you can be alone or a crew... there are advantages to be had. Yet we shouldn't make it so out of proportion that nobody can stand a chance alone.

  • I still think Pirate Legend should be mostly achieved in Adventure mode (and no, I am not one yet).

Other than that I have no problems with people getting gold or doubloons from a parallel alliance mode if they want to team up with mates occasionally similar to Arena.

just to make that clear i am against any cheesing of the game and i would never hop a server to do anything, but login and play and make the best adventure i can out of what the Sea will throw at me.
But find people who aproach it like this, try to find a crew RP'ing.
    Impossibble!!!
I have adapted like so often to many things and accept that some want to play together and have fun.

I dont think PvPers will do it often and have a lot of profit out of it.
I'd say all focussed on PvP have little to no challenge in PVP (adventure).
99% of all of the fights we have, and we aren't focussed on PVP, but just experienced aren't a challenge, but easy sinks.
At FotD it begins to be challenging when 3 ships try to sink you, most sink mutlitple times before they even get close and hit with a single cannonball.
Very rarely you meet a competetnt crew who is challenging you. and even more rare is it that we sink. I honetly cannot remember we got sunk as a crew.
I got sunk solo some weeks ago, but i also sunk some other solos and duos meanwhile.

Premade alliances would be used by PvE focussed crews of 5-7 people i guess.
but becuase you can cheese a lot of commendations i'm not promoting this. But i accepted it, like i accepted people hop servers to please themself in whatever way, they do alliance servers, they hop until they find an active FotD, they exploit run-carrying and break animations, to a lot of people it is usual to look up the solutions of riddles, tales and just everything they can to "imrpove" their experiences.
I tell you something, poeple i sail with cancel voyages because bad route, no golden chickens or whatever.
I'm ok with it, but i dont do it for myself!
Yesterday i neede 6 skulls to finish the blighted ship stuff.
I got my first mission and it was one fouls skull, i got my second mission and it was one skull only again. did i cancel? No!
I even did a random cargo i found ashore in between, because adventure you know.
i had to buy a third journey to get my final skulls.

I'm gainst all of tha tweakingt, but tbh 85% of all gamers can stop gaming then, becuase their way to play is exactly that. tweaking here, cheesing there, use an exploit here, do a speedrun there, spoiler yourself the solutions to whatever.

I'm searching for 13 years (when i stopped DM Pen and Paper Sessions) to find some likeminded players to RP in open PvP sandbox games.
Unfortunatley they are mostly badly set up and exploiting and all this is the meta.
And when i knew about SoT i thought nice a cool environment to RP, no vertical progression and imbalancies etc... But again the majority isn't immersiing or RP'ing, but cheesing it and the meta is to exploit in combat.
And with Arena and recently a flood of online FPS players they want TDM on islands, so a shooter literally - who wants ships in a pirate game?!? remeber the "stoopid pirate fantasy" insult from somone here playing with a popular streamer?
No they go into Arena and cheese it to play TDM at Forts and then come here and claim they are the competetive community, they are the dedicated PvPers and gamers and everybody else need not say anything because they are just casuals who anyway will leave soon and cannot help the developers to improve the game. - elitism at its best.
I'm casual, i'm a RPer, i'm nearly 44yo, i play this game regularyl, but casually and i play it successfull and longer than a lot of the ones who think they are the measure for everything.

Nobody is against combat exploits but agree's with other exploits, but look around you, find me some one not cheesing in any form or way???

You will find maybe 2 or 3 in the Forums, on Reddit and everywhere else who do not tweak their game, but immerse and RP a pirate adventure.

  • @bugaboo-bill

Why do you care so much how other people play? I just play like I want to play, I don't drop, pick up chests for a speed boost, I don't spam x to dig faster or did any animation canceling other than for some testing what people were on about, established how easy it is.

The fact is I play my way and everyone else can do their thing. Yet to state that because someone does something you dont like or because someone cannot challenge you doesn't mean that we should just stop trying and have Rare throw all balance out the window. Personally I would like the matchmaking to account a bit for experience, not sure how they would do that. I have an issue with the open crew system and with the matchmaking process in general, it is to simple.

I to have issues finding good fights, I to take breaks and yet sometimes I come across a pirate that can duel and uses a sword. It makes my day, I tend to thank them win or lose. Even rowed back after my crew left and raged quit once because they got clapped so hard by a clearly stable 4 man crew, galleon on galleon fight, while I was having the best time of my life losing the fight. They even gave me a final goodbye duel.

  • I run into crews every so often that asked me for my ship (invite to crew) so that their friends can join.

It's not much. But it's the best way to get more than 4 friends together as things stand.

  • I would love to be able to join a server with a ship, personally. To add, I would also love for a 5 or 6 person ship... That is what my heart is set on. We have 5 people, and possibly a 6th one soon.. Praying they add a bigger ship in the future. Point being, we all just want to play together and at this time cannot.

Suggestion: If you join a server as a 2-ship alliance, you cannot become a Reaper's Emissary or something of the sort to discourage players from focusing on PvP and trying to kill everyone with 2 ships.

I also liked the idea of only having 1 galleon, or 1 large ship.. That makes sense to me.
