(Steam) Stuttering at skull forts and OoS skeleton voyages

  • Whenever there are OoS special skeletons nearby, the cpu goes crazy and causes very choppy framerates. This problem only happens on steam. I have seen many reports of the same problem on reddit. I submitted a ticket and posted several times in the feedback threads.

It's clearly caused by the oos skeles, because the problem goes away as you eliminate them, then returns when the next wave spawns.

Do you have the browser open in overlay? A voice chat? etc?
Definitely open a support ticket: https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new

  • I have actually also noticing this. It happens during Skull Fleets aswell. It was unplayable so I went back to the Windows version.

  • I have figured out that 7 or more skeletons of any type is too much for mine to handle. 6 or less runs ok.

  • Same happens to me, whenever NPCs get close (forts, ships or on islands) I get my fps drop from 100 to 10-15 with freezings. Only happens with steam version, and same problem to 2 friends who bought the game too. Also seen this post on steam community forums. It can handle only like 4-5 skeletons, 1 more and game is unplayable.

  • Try changing the buffer in video settings to triple or quadruple

    Still the same, :/

  • Just for testing, can you disable overlay and try launching the game?
Right click SoT, go to properties, and uncheck the enable overlay.
    It will look like this:

  • I tried disabling steam overlay, xbox game bar, and both at the same time. I tried pretty much everything I can think of. I think it's a problem with the steam version that needs to be fixed. Many people have complained about it. On the first 2 days of steam release I saw about 10 different (reddit) threads started with the same complaint.

Okay, making sure it wasn't an extra resource issue. The game is compiled in UR4, so really there shouldn't be much difference between UWP and x64, both using dx, making it more of secondary issues, launchers/overlays/etc.

I will try to trigger this myself with some monitors and see if anything is noticeable.

Make sure everyone is using support tickets to find commonalities, could be a specific hardware/software issue.

  • Me and a friend of mine still suffering from this, we cannot play under Forts, whenever we see a ship running towards the fort we are forced to get away becouse we are sure that we gonna lose the fight.. it's very frustating...

  • Still having the same problem more than 1 month after steam release.
