Pet Improvements

  • I'd like to see a more intricate system for the pets to make them feel more alive and worth the purchase to more people. Few players have them as of now. I know I'm in the group that likes playing with them ever so often, but doesn't justify a purchase. If these were added, I'd definitely get a couple and pretty sure almost every player would want one much more. More pets being bought means more money for Rare and a better game for us.

These additions would only make the pet feel much more alive, like a sidekick on the seas. However they wouldnt give an unfair advantage to players without them.

    • Pet Mood
Give the pets a mood. They'd animate differently depending on their mood. They can have be upset or happy. Things that scare them like shooting them or near them, would make them upset. Feeding and playing with them would make them happy.

If the pets are happy they would do what they do now, like dance when music is played. If they are max happiness they can do something special for each animation, like pulling out their own instrument to join in on the fanfare.

If they are upset they will make upset sounds and have their own upset emotes when objects or emotes are used on them, perhaps they'd close their arms ignoring instruments or even start being mean to the other pets.

    • Pet to Pet interaction
Allow the pets to interact with each other on their own. They'd move to each other on their own when in a radius equal to that of the ship. They'd play with each other or mess with each other, depending on their mood. These random interactions they'd have would also effect their mood depending on the outcome.

    • Pet slightly helps the Player in PVE ONLY
If the pet is happy, it would do slightly helpful things like:

    • Pointing to holes in the ship.
    • Pointing to where treasure is once the player is very near the treasure and misses two digs. When the player misses one dig, the pet will just scratch it's head, wondering where the treasure is.
    • Runs towards the pick up spot and sell spots for merchants.
    • Jumps on the head of a non boss/red name enemy, causing the basic enemy to run around trying to get the pet off its head for a couple seconds before throwing it off. The pet would recover for a couple seconds then run at the nearest enemy again. The pet would only do this to non boss enemies, not red name bosses or players.
The pet would act too afraid to jump on a red name boss enemy or player during a fight. Acting as if it's about to try to jump, but chickens out on the last second.

Fair point. Most people here want Rare to continue to see SoT as a revenue stream so they continue to work on it.

Excellent. Most people who suggest changes to pets don't take this into consideration.

    Like this idea

    I like this idea too.

Ehh... any advantage offered by pets could still be considered "pay-to-win". I agree that these are very minor advantages, but they would still provide a measurable advantage for owning a pet. I like your earlier ideas, though.
