ARENA IS BROKEN

  • I know, the hitreg in this game is not a easy thing to fix, but come on, when it comes to a PVP specific gamemode it should be a bit more consistant. The maps are even smaller than before but I feel like the hitreg is getting worse in every update no matter what.
    It's really painful to get like 5 hitmarkers in a 1v1 even on an ISLAND (so don't come up with the speed/movement modifiers) and never being able to get the kill while sometimes there's absolutely no problems. It's absolutely not funny to play with a sniper or pistol anymore since each hitmarker is 50% of the time a lie or 50% is a real hit. Or even better, you don't have a hitmarker but kill someone or you see a bullet goind 2 meters to your left and it hits you.. It's so inconsistant and for the Arena reworked around the fact we fight alot more it's unplayable.
    What makes me play is the Competition of Courage, because I always grab any limited-time skins since I play the game, but come on.. 20 top 1 ? It's 5 hours without loading screens and considering you win every game, which is not easy when all the Arena try harders are there playing as well. So even if we say like, you win 1 out of 3 games, it's 15 hours a raw gameplay where I just want to tear the skin off my body since everything looks like it's designed to be frustrating.
    I know you'll say "just don't play Arena then" but that's not the point, if there's a feature in a game, even if I don't enjoy it so much, it should be made to BE ENJOYABLE which is not all the time and mostly because of the hitreg, the gamemode itself is pretty fun, but unplayable. (I'm around 40 ping each game, so I don't get why I feel I can't hit anything in server-side but only in client-side).
    And seeing how the PVP meta is, it's not even funny because lots of people abuse the ping/hitmarker problem by healing themselves jumping, 360'ing, strafing all in the same time when they get hit, so it's even more frustrating trying to land second shot to kill him before he heals.
    Will the hitreg be fixed one day ? I doubt it but I'd really like to, I have hundreds of hours spent on this game and since the beginning it's only thing I really don't like even if it's my favourite game atm.

  • Hit Reg is significantly worse in Arena, or at least more noticeable to the amount of combat. The registration is also rubbish for every weapon, including the sword.

    The wife and I have been having good luck with Open Crew Galleon Arena the last couple of evenings. I am at 18/20 first place wins with taking second 3-4 times, but nothing less.

    That said, the amount of glitching on the servers is horrendous. Lag spikes, rubberbanding, unable to interact with cannons, bailing refilling your bucket after throwing off so you end up throwing it back on your ship, mermaids not spawning at all or without a flair and a mile away. The list goes on unfortunately...

    Worse part for me is the players forming alliances, and the crews that only farm cannons on under-crewed ships then run away from combat. Almost every match we played, most people tried to farm cannon hits and avoid everyone else as much as possible. Three of our matches last night had crews working together to boost one-another. A Galleon of 4 newish players were being boosted by a Legendary Seadog who was soloing a Galleon each match. He would position his ship for them to farm hits while collecting the chest, and run interference against anyone else. If you got too close to his ship, he would scuttle so you couldn't get a single shot on it.

    Still having some fun though....

  • @kevlar830 I have played few arena maches on duo sloop and i need to say that there are 90% of cannonballs fights in arena and 10% of gun shooting. Arena is what naval combat should be everywhere. Constant shooting from your cannons on the decks.. planks are flying, people screaming, helmsman trying to angle the ship right way. Everyone want that chest... it's a brilliant experience!

    After 5 matches today i have to say one thing: There is much more fighting vis a vis with your guns in adventure mode. In adventure we want to sink enemies ASAP while in arena you also want to get some points which makes cannon play much richer. I would like to see more "arena style" combat in adventure but in adventure we've got other goals which we want to achieve while fighting with other players.

    I also noticed some spikes while playing but that didn't bothered me and my way to victory. Cannon hitreg is perfectly fine.

    - 3 mins of some good naval battle.

  • @avecrux That being reminded, I also have some cannon hitreg problem actually.
    Yesterday, we had at least a dozen cannon shots that didn't register properly, we were seeing the explosion but not hitmarker/sound and no points from those shots, it's more consistant but not fully reliable even with a average ping of 40-50.

    I talked about the gunfight because it's more obvious there're big issues with hitreg and also because I'm used to go for the chests like before the Arena rework so I had as many gunfights than ship battles actually.

    But as @archangel-timmy said, I managed to get a 5 win streak just by shooting the others ships instead of selling chests but it's a poor play most of the time, even more when you feel like it's better to keep the chest onboard instead of selling it cause it would give the opportunity to others to clutch with another one. It could be more fair if another chest spawn a few minutes later when the first one has been dug up.

    When you spam someone until they rage quit and keep getting points even if the crew has left the game that's pretty boring, I shouldn't complain because I won some of those games thanks to this, but I don't feel like "Yay, I played well I deserve to win", it's more like "Omg, why is this gamemode so unfair..".

    And if you go for selling, you can be sure there will be lots of campers at the outpost which forces you to play with frustrating hitreg.. I hit a guy holding a chest with 2 pistols shots and 1 eye-of-reach on the "balcony" around the captain's room of the ship outpost, how can they be missed when you can only go forward and that I'm close range, I don't get it unfortunately.

  • Hitreg even occurs on Chainshots. Me and my crewmate, we both saw the collision of our chainball with the mast of another sloop in the arena. Result: the hit did not got registrated and their mast didn't fall.

    Yeah, in Adventure and Arena, I've had alot of cannonballs recently pass me by, and one shot me after, even though they never made contact with anything on my ship or me.

  • i agree with reapinglegion its so frustrating so please fix that before you put your money at achieving more players to play sot. the game will die because of this sh*t. maybe hire in some hackers to secure your game ;-)

  • i ask me really do they have playtesters???hired playertesters not insiders. the waiting times are also an issue but idk if they can fix it i think that mode is just almost dead

  • I wouldn't say it's garbage @ReapingLegion the mode itself is not a bad idea, but many facts make it really frustrating to play to. It's great in the way that you can play SoT for à few minutes while usually when you go on Adventure mode, you'll spend a few hours playing.
    @Weedstar-DeLuxe Queue times are pretty correct but maybe it's thanks to the current event, I don't know, I'm not a usual Arena player so I'm not about the queue times in normal conditions. :/

  • @kevlar830 I would prefer a conquest mode, drop of doubleguns (cuz face it, it's gameplay destroying) and team deathmatch rather then the PVE garbage that's there now.
    And a anticheat bot, but right now rare don't care about it...much like EA and Battlefield 5.
    But naaah lets ad more garbage so people forgets about it for a while....and then the circle IS complete.
    So no, i stand by my words.

    We are having massive hitreg issues also, on ladders, in water, and in regular fights, since one week I didn't killed a single guy in two bullets (at least 3 or 4) while i'm doing at least 5 games every evening. Hitreg in the water is broken, on the ladders there is a bug as well and regular combat is worst than it was ever. Hit registration is ignored, and should be the priority for rare now, it is destroying this nice game. We need answers and informations now it's getting frustrating. Is it a tick rate problem? Is it a hardware problem on servers? Is it just a position of player calculation issue in the code? Please rare, react and do something! We saw some hard issues with it since the last update and more this week!

  • matchmaking is broken, balance is broken, this mode is just waste of time without team. 90% of games you will play alone on galeon(or maybe together with someone such unlucky), 90% of ths 90% games is just afk farming. And you just cant do nothing - i seen a lot of games when some1 just raised to top1 4-5k points at last one minute just coz he found afk player on other side of the map.

    Waste of time, competition of courage is just trolling for players without full team.

  • OMG I can't stand this mode anymore !!
    Again I found something else, 2 ships playing as allied, right next to each other and not attacking between them. They were since the start of the game next to an island in the Arena. Exactly 10 seconds after the first chest has been delivered to the outpost, they dug up the new one !

    So what now ? You can preshoot the next island and just wait to get a chest ? Super fair again.. OMG I'm getting mad with this competition..

  • It's not funny at all, it's just frustrating all along, I just rage quit because someone went AFK and the team behind us rushed them to farm points, AGAIN.

    Isn't it simple to design a gamemode properly ?
    Like : the person who get the chest onboard get points each INSERT minutes ? So maybe the game will be around THAT chest and not about AFK SHIP which is more valuable than the chest.
    Maybe higher the price of the chest ?
    Maybe reduce the points for cannonshots hits ? (I don't even understand why they buffed the cannons and not the chest, a chest = 25 hits, on each ship you have 180 cannons if I remember well, that's bllsht)
    Disconnect ships that don't set sails after like 2 minutes ? So no more AFK farming ?

    I think it's not hard to do this, they can disconnect your character for being afk, they can change a value number they can even track during/distance stats for eventually getting points with the chest onboard after distance/minutes so I don't understand why this rework is so unpleasant.

    I think it was funnier when you could clutch by bringing a bunch of chests you stole last minute from another ship and when your ennemy was the first player and not an afk ship.. I'm done, I think I have to give up for the figurehead sadly..

  • I just find out, that on xbox if you in party with 3 people all on different xbox’s you go to Arena then to sloop closed crew. If you push A&B together at same time and set sail all together you will be together in the lobby on different ships so thats how they farm points.. like we said before it’s broken!! Gone try if that works in adventure... that means if you need people on your boat they can leave game and joy your game so switching between boats is very easy damn this is sick!! 🤬🤬

  • They ain’t gonna fix hit reg it’s been a problem in the game for a LONG time. Popped into the dev stream to ask about it and got hassled by people saying get his hit you’re shots like this is some sort of competitive shooter lol.
    The games balanced around hitting skeletons and that don’t even work half the time. Someone said it was ‘complicated’ yet they update store enough and add other content but just ignore one of the key elements of the game like I dunno you’re shot actually registering on someone...

  • @aglasgowthing Even if the hitreg is messy, I'd like AT LEAST one thing : if I get a hitmarker, I actually have hit the target and that's it. The fact that the hitreg is unreliable is a thing, but the fact you shoot and THINK you hit him so you might decide to rush with sword for example but the guy isn't close to death at all is the kind of strategy breaking that makes you lose a fight..

    The real question to ask is : why is the hitreg only server side but the hitmarker only is client-side, it's completely opposed.. We would just need a real confirmation, the hitmarker shouldn't pop on your screen if it didn't actually hit, I don't understand why THIS particularly hasn't been addressed since the start of the game..
