Arena: Change enemies every match to reduce teaming

  • I've seen a lot of people teaming, they don't even need the chest, they just shoot one each other continously, this happens a lot in sloop games. Since every match they are the same, they can team easily taking turns to win.

Please, remove it, it is frustrating to have to fight "alliances" in arena.

    Or ban them, or something.

I never play arena due to people doing this kind of things, but since you are forcing us to play to get that cosmetics, at least take a look of what people do.

  • @guepard4 its frustrating, but not against the rules. You could always try and disrupt their teaming.

Teaming is not against the rules?
Then the rules should be changed. Not my behaviour.

The game is about social interaction. I find boats like this are fun to target. just always pick the same crew to sink.

  • Yeah this is an issue we just had. Two teams, obviously in an Xbox Party or Discord, working together, boarding ships together, and making sure nobody else on the server can even get close to winning.

Its one thing if a bunch of ships decide to go after the team in the lead, or one that would soon take the lead.. but starting the game in basically an alliance is not fair to any other ships that would like to have a sporting chance to win.

Also, there really needs to be some sort of way for crews that lag out, or leave the game to have hits on their ship count as no points, since one of the main strategies is to just "farm" the empty ships.

I have never really been interested in Arena, just playing it so I can slowly get up to 240 wins so I can complete my Pirate Legend set... but with people manipulating the matches so they have an edge, it makes it A: Less possible to win, and B: makes me want to play it less.

I think you don't understand what arena is

  • You can change enemies after a match, just press x/ f after a game when it says ‘vote for new rivals’ in the top left

Oh, then solved. People can cheat because, who cares, you can change and wait 30 min to start another game.

I very much understand what the arena is. It is a condensed version of sea of thieves designed for people that do not have time for a full session. I'm not gonna deny that people teaming in arena is annoying, but it's not against the rules. But I would be against a forced change in teams every match as sometimes its fun to go after the crew that beat you last time.

I do believe the arena needs another overhaul in scoring. Arena 2.0 brought many improvements, how ever the current balance of points has created a very odd meta.

  • I had two teams team up yesterday and I was fine with it. They sailed to an island and farmed kills off each other. The commendations for arena are skewed into just killing or cannon shots. People finish the wins and participation commendations and just join games to kill each other so they can unlock the rest of them. All the kills and cannon shots are PER PLAYER not per ship so it causes tons of people who need to join just for murder death kill and not to win. I've seen boats get spawn killed, I see people grinding cannon shots on boats all the time and bailing, I see teams grab the chest and play keep away just so they can fight the other teams and grind kills...the amount of kills needed to unlock the commendations far exceeds the participation/win commendations so naturally people will team up to grind kills.

I won the matches with the alliance kill grinders which is why I didnt care. But I've also had my struggles being ganged up on by multiple ships or losing matches because I fought tooth and nail to turn a chest in just for someone to go afk farm cannon shots in the background and take the lead.

It would be nice if the kills and whatnot were per boat to limit the amount of teams that join just to slaughter each other and farm kills and not actually play. It's like 100 wins for the commendation and like 200 kills per weapon I think? So 100 wins vs 800 kills? Let the alliance slaughterfest begin!

  • Most of the time people claim other crew are ‘teaming’ in arena they are just tdming. If you see two or more boats at parked at a fort, they are doing a tdm. This means they are fighting at the fort with usually sniper and pistol only. They are 99% of the time not going for the win, so you can just get a free win. If you come and attack them and mess up their tdm they will attack you though. And I promise you’ll never win.

Pretty much this. In regards to OP's train of thought regarding commendations: nearly every crew who does TDM's already has all of their commendations done; nobody is doing it for comms, we're doing it because it's hard to get good PVP fights in this game, so we practice in TDM's against eachother rather than fight nobodies who can't pose a real challenge.

If you interrupt a TDM, you will get spawncamped. If you see ships parked around a fort on your server, take your free win and go get the chest, and leave them alone.

  • @guepard4 me and my mate play sloop arena lately. I can say that its possible to hit them back anyways. With canons you can kill their crew and make it impossible to board you. Then kill the second guy and they are done. Cant say we make the best team, but for sure the more fights you have, the better your skills become
Rat type players always quit once they lose, so we try to show such guys that its time to play nicely and quit such behavior
But if they are real pros, then it can be really a problem, especially FPS loving doublegunners. I guess the only possible way is to show you are stronger unfortunately
Have some good times and wins out there
