Suggestion: Artic Ocean Area

  • Hi all,

As the game is moving forward I was wondering if it would not be cool to have an Arctic Ocean area, we would need to equip an icebreaker on our ships to pass through it this could also open up some new activities such as: Ice fishing, skiing on the mainland, an Eskimo area , ice winds, etc.

With this they could introduce ice skeletons, which can only be defeated by melting them with a torch.

These are just a few things I was thinking of :)

  • @ongeburz my only concern with this is the real world location of Sea of Thieves is in the North East Caribbean. There is no arctic area there.

  • Maybe in Sea Of Vikings!

The entrance is in the Caribbean, but where we go once we cross the shroud is up for debate. There is a lot of evidence in the game that we have left the real world for another place. There are already areas that are nothing like what you find in the Caribbean; the Wilds and the Devil’s Shroud. Piracy has been an option around the world for a long time.

    @ongeburz Sign me up

  • It's been already fan designed and it was called Frozen Fangs by @KikiOfZeDead

  • No, i want to stick to the Carribean Flair and if ever i want them to add the Sea of five Winds from the Lore Book.

Woow :o never knew, thank you for sharing this. looks really nice !

  • @ongeburz I'd be all for it. While some may say we are not in the right area of the world. Its a fantasy game/world and you can play it fast and loose in games like this regarding plausible locale. It doesn't bother me one bit. I love the idea about ice fishing and skating around. Would add a fun element to combat and a funny headache to getting chests back to your ship. Good idea, hope such an area is developed.

  • @ghostpaw the Caribbean plate actually would have had volcanic activity on the eastern side. And the wilds reflect a bit more of the Atlantic.

  • @captain-coel Here is a pic taken on the northern coast of Scotland. Tint it a little green and tell me what region on the map that it reminds you of.

    Off the coast of Ireland.

The Wilds echoes the Northern Atlantic. Thousands of miles away from the Caribbean. Or show me a pic of the Caribbean that matches the barren and ash-choked climate of the Devil’s Roar. It is a unique place.

Sorry, but I am not going to let this go. I am absolutely sick of this argument that the range of ideas is limited because some people assume the region is supposed to be set only within the Caribbean. The reasons given are typically 1) an animation that shows the entrance to the SoT in the Caribbean, or 2) a speculation video by Captain Falcore, but all he really concludes is that we are in a place of legends.

SoT is located somewhere else. We enter somehow from a place in the Caribbean and we are transported elsewhere. We are in a separate reality where things that we do not see in everyday reality are possible. This leaves room for anything the creative team at Rare choose to dream up for us.

There's no devil's shroud, or sea of the damned in the Caribbean either..

Once you're in the seas, you're pretty much in, and most of the typical laws of reality don't really apply when you make it through.

They could totally do it, and even do some kind of lore "special travel" mystical aspect just like cutting through the shroud to the lost Shores of Gold.

  • @ghostpaw see ive always thought of sea of thieves being in a different time, not different place.

  • @ghostpaw I agree. I've always seen sea of theives like a world unto itself. You have crazy volcanos to the east, you could have crazy cold to the west. Who cares if its not in line with the real world. We should not limit ourselves to real world possibilities as the well of ideas would dry up fast. If you open yourself up to fantastical possibilities it could very well raise this game to another level. Which im all for.

Also those pictures are crazy similar.

  • They could make the Northern area only accessible via the Shroudbreaker, so that way the original Tall Tales need to be completed at least once to access the area on one's own, as to make some sort of separation between the climates.

Then a Hand Held Harpoon gun could be added, Whales (some hostile, some not), Penguins, Polar Bears, Wolverines, Ice Skeletons, etc.
    You know, arctic stuff.

Would really like to see an Ice Biome in the game though.
Piracy did occur in Arctic regions in history, so I'm sure they could work something into the lore.
